JAM Petrochemical Company General Catalogue 17 Development Plans Along its mission and large scale goals, JAM Petrochemical Company takes steps through its Engineering Department to implement its development plans so as to achieve considerably higher strategic status, complete its production chain through producing knowledge based products of higher added value, enhance the capacity of its existent units, and scrutinize the possibility of taking foreign currency loans as per international instructions. For the foregoing purposes, this Department conducts feasibility studies for some large scale development plans. Taking also into account the financial resources of the stockholders of JPC, any final decision on the implementation and finance of those feasibility-studied projects is eventually made by JPC’s board of directors and stockholders.

PDH/PP UNIT Considering the advantage of access to the huge resources of propane feed in the South Pars region, the movement by olefin units toward gas crackers and the prediction of an increase in global demand for propylene, this Department intends to conduct a feasibility study for the establishment of a propylene unit making use of propane dehydrogenization (PDH) technology and of a downstream polypropylene unit in order to achieve JPC’s goal of supplying high added value products and avoiding crude state sale. To this end, the respective technical and economic report was prepared and preliminary correspondence was performed to make arrangements (including attainment of permits) related to feed, land and financial resources.

HDPE UNIT Taking into account the ethylene surplus of the olefin unit and the movement along its goal to complete its production chain and enhance the added value of its products, JPC is pondering over the establishment of a HDPE unit consistent with the needs of domestic and foreign markets as one of its development plans. This project’s feasibility study report was prepared.

Acrylonitrile (ACN) UNIT As a starting material used for the production of, for example, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and acrylonitrile fibers, acrylonitrile plays an important role in the chemical and synthetic fibers production industries. Since propylene is the primary material used to produce acrylonitrile and that the latter substance, despite its considerably good market, has not been produced in Iran up to the present time, the Engineering Department of JPC believes, the establishment of an acrylonitrile unit can help this Company realize its goal of procuring products of higher added value and avoiding crude state sale. It is noteworthy that the entire preliminary agreements have been attained from technology companies.

NEW OLEFIN UNIT According to the performed study, total nominal capacity of ethane including all ethane recovery units (both at service and under construction) amounts to 13.6 million tons a year which has a yearly surplus of 1.3 million tons when compared to the nominal capacity of all consumers of the Asaluyeh region. Therefore, considering the list of development plans provided by National Petrochemical Company and the managerial, technical and commercial experience JPC possesses in the field of olefins production, and in order to optimally exploit the available capitals to create greater added value, JPC introduced Olefin 2 Construction Project. The technical, financial and

JAM Petrochemical Company 18 General Catalogue economical feasibility study of an olefin unit with the capacity of 1 million tons a year which is fed by ethane and butane is being conducted, and at the same time necessary measures to attain any required permits are being taken.

C2 RECOVERY UNIT Ethane is the very important and strategic feed of olefin units. Therefore, the production of ethane not only ensures availability of the said feed but it also serves a critical role in the economical development and prosperity and the creation of employment opportunities. Any partnership and investment in the existent ethane recovery unit project create added value owing to the production of C2+ and also help JPC permanently supply its required feed. Accordingly, this project can be seen as one of the strategic decisions made by JPC.

MTBE UNIT Along the line of creating greater added value for JPC products, it should be mentioned that the raffinate returned from the BD unit can be regarded as a potential to turn into a product of higher added value. As a development project, the MTBE Project is going through feasibility study while taking into account the environmental requirements and the situation of production and consumption markets.

Expansion Projects In order to enhance the olefin capacity, both butadiene unit and polymer units are under construction in accordance with the correspondence done with technology owners and international engineering companies.
