6 7 The Circuit GPX Tour La Canada to Kernville July 27-28, 2019‐

Last year’s river rafting was great, but this year Mother Nature has blessed the river with great run off. So, we are going again.

Saturday, drive from La Canada to Kernville with lunch at Kohnen’ Country Bak- ery in Tehachapi then up the scenic Kern River Canyon and spend the night in Kernville.

Last year’s 3-hour rafting was not enough, so on Sunday enjoy 6-hour raft trip. http://www.mtnriver.com/

Story: Charlie Carchedi Photos: Barry Carson, Patrick Cable, Charlie & Kathie Carchedi, Treffen Santa Barbara Steve Geldman, When I’m driving my Porsche, getting “there” is half the fun, no, make that “all the fun”! I’ve gone on tours that Alan Johnson has put together and regardless of the destination, the twisty, scenic roads Alan chooses along the way are the best part of the experience. So back in January, when I heard that there was going to be a Treffen in Santa Barbara, CA, from April 3-6, I couldn’t resist! Santa Barbara is a mere two hour drive from my house, so why not? We checked into the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort on Wednesday, April 3rd, and after checking into our room, joined other PCA members at the “Welcome Recep- tion”. The word Treffen means “to meet”, and this was an opportunity to meet other like minded Porsche enthusi- asts. Later we took a 10 minute walk to the “Funk Zone” in above and below: Hearst Castle - photos: Steve Geldman SBR downtown Santa Barbara and had dinner. Thursday’s “Open- ing Dinner” and Saturday’s “Closing Dinner” were included as was daily breakfasts and lunches. For Wednesday and Fri- day, dinner was on our own. However there was a “Wine and Cheese” social on Friday with so many appetizers, that we later only had a very light dinner snack. The Santa Barbara PCA Region put together a fantastic three days of activities ranging from driving tours on Thurs- day and Saturday, with Friday designated as “Navigators Day Off”. On each day there were many tours to choose from. Kathie and I chose a driving tour to the Hearst Castle for Thursday. On Friday, we took a Trolley Tour of Santa Barbara with Bob Dickey, the most knowledgeable docent we have ever encountered. (Bob at [email protected].) On Saturday, we did another driving tour to some of Califor- nia’s Missions. There were other tours to choose from such as the Reagan Library, Wine Country, Solvang, and the Getty Museum. Thank-you to the Santa Barbara Region volunteers for putting together a great Treffen. I’d also like to personally thank Steve Geldman, Barry Carson, and Patrick Cable of the Santa Barbara Region for their photographs.
