While UNIMAS is strong in biodiversity studies, this and most of other research activities at this university are firmly based on contemporary technologies.

The cultural diversity and social uniqueness of Sarawak communities offer research opportunities in health and medicine, by offering a look at the influence of environmental factors and socio-cultural practices of the interactions of various pathogens as well as other issues related to community health. DIGITAL INITIATIVES UNIMAS Now • UNIMAS first official mobile application for android devices. This application enables users to receive all latest events and announcements in UNIMAS instanly. Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) • UNIMAS first Massive Open Online Course offers an integration of online, hybrid and collaborative learning in achieving the learning goals on topics related to ICT Competency Open Course Ware (OCW) • UNIMAS academicians make available their course notes, lecture notes, exams and various course resources for free to anyone who has internet access. Smart Research @ iRIS • The Integrated Research Information System (iRIS) provides us the capability to embed Quick Response (QR) codes in research products and posters during exposition as well providing QR for evaluation of projects. Additionally, our Smart Research @ iRIS provides a glimpse for our researchers of their status as principal investigators, their indexed publications, the number and total amount of their grants as well as any intellectual properties granted. Not only that, we are able to conduct big data analytics through this platform by examining our faculties’ and institutes’ data. From research operation, iRIS delivers an online solution for users such as academicians and support staff, to compile data for job promotion, job appraisal, research assistance, commercialisation and consultancy. eLEAP (e-Learning Enrichment and Advancement Platform) • UNIMAS is focusing on the blended learning concept/approach in which academic staff is encouraged to design teaching and learning process that integrates face-to-face learning and online learning through the official Learning Management System (LMS) known as eLEAP (e-Learning Enrichment and Advancement Platform). Besides presenting lecture in class, academics can share the course materials such as notes, readings, assignments, and they can also enhance their students’ learning experience by conducting various types of interactive and collaborative learning activities via eLEAP. DIGITAL INITIATIVES ACADEMIA • A centralized electronic data management system that supports the process of recording program and courses in phases, assessment reporting, evaluation and monitoring the effectiveness of program and student performance in UNIMAS. ACADEMIA consists of 4 main components: a.MyCLASS (Curriculum, Learning and Assessment Support System) • A system that manages the information on CQI program and courses and provides assessment on Programme Learning Outcome and Course Learning Outcome involving the mapping of Malaysian Qualifications Framework, PLO, CLO and constructive alignment mapping. b.MyMark • A system that provides an interface for lecturer to key in student’s score based on CLO rating from the constructive alignment mapping of MyCLASS. c.U-LEARN (Learning Outcome Report and Analysis) • A system that generates a learning achievement report for PLO and CLO based on student’s CLO score according to courses and programs. d.ACADS (Academic Advisor) • A system with an advisory element, monitoring, evaluation and academic performance record to assist academicians in providing guidance and advice for student development. 118 INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS 31 COUNTRIES
