Als dirigent van het Vlaams Radio Koor, het Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chorus (Londen), het Europees Jeugdkoor en het Gents Madrigaalkoor verwierf hij internationale erkenning. Hij wordt regelmatig uitgenodigd als gastdirigent bij vooraanstaande kamer- en radiokoren doorheen Europa en Latijns-Amerika. Hij is een gewaardeerd docent en jurylid op talloze internationale dirigentencursussen en koorfestivals. Als componist legt Johan Duijck zich bij voorkeur toe op piano- en koormuziek. Zijn belangrijkste composities zijn de cantates “el Camino del Alma” en “A mirror to St. Nicolas”, het koorwerk “Cantiones Sacrae in honorem Thomas Tallis” en de pianowerken “The well-tempered pianist” en “Le Tombeau de Ravel”. Johan Duijck is ‘Composer in residence’ van het Vlaams Radio Koor. Bij het label Phaedra (In Flanders’ Fields) verschenen CD’s volledig gewijd aan zijn composities (www.phaedracd.com). Naast het dirigeren en componeren beleeft Johan Duijck enorm veel vreugde aan zijn eerste grote liefde: de piano. Hij is gegradueerde van de internationaal befaamde Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth en verwierf de prijzen Günther, Pro Civitate, Tenuto, Ollin en Lefranc. In zijn recitals wisselt hij de meesterwerken uit de literatuur af met vergeten parels en originele vondsten. Ook op pedagogisch gebied geniet Johan Duijck een uitstekende reputatie. Hij doceert piano aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium te Gent en koordirectie aan de Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya te Barcelona (E). Aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth, de Dartington International Summer School (GB) en de Euskalerriko Abesbatzen Elkartea (E) onderrichtte hij piano en koordirectie aan talloze studenten. Zijn voornaamste leermeesters waren Peter Cabus (compositie), Robert Steyaert (piano) en László Heltay (directie). The Vlaams Radio Koor (Flemish Radio Choir) is a professional chamber choir whose programme includes works from the entire repertoire, with a special emphasis on Flemish and contemporary music. Every season, the choir also commissions works from a number of Flemish composers. Starting in the - season, the Vlaams Radio Koor will be rehoused in the Flagey building. The Vlaams Radio Koor was established in by the Belgian national broadcasting corporation, the INR/NIR. Since , when the choir was privatised, it has evolved from a studio ensemble into a concert ensemble. The professional singers are led by chief conductor Johan Duijck. Leading international conductors also frequent the Vlaams Radio Koor: well-known guest conductors such as Kaspars Putnins, Bo Holten, Laszlo Heltay, Paul Hillier and Hervé Niquet enjoy working with the choir. The Vlaams Radio Koor performs throughout Flanders. As well as its own ongoing performance cycles in Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent and Leuven, the choir works in close partnership with the Hasselt Cultural Centre, De Maalbeek Cultural Centre in Brussels,’t Getouw Cultural Centre for the Abbey Concerts series, Leuven Cultural Centre and Flagey. A number of ensembles regularly invite the Vlaams Radio Koor to work with them on their productions, including the Vlaams Radio Orkest, the Beethoven Academie, deFilharmonie, the Belgian National Orchestra and the Flemish Opera. The Vlaams Radio Koor has also maintained its unique status as a radio choir. Its close ties with public broadcasting result in numerous studio productions and involvement in events on radio and television. Moreover, virtually all its concert productions are recorded by Klara, the Flemish classical music channel, enabling the choir to build up a unique collection of recordings, including work by Flemish composers. Since the - season, the Vlaams Radio Koor has been forming a CD collection with the Glossa label based on the great chamber choir repertoire. With BMG Music Publishing, it is working on the worldwide commercial development of its score collection, while Klara remains its partner for exploring Flemish music. Thus there are plans to record a series of monographs on Flemish composers.
