Temperatures range from 17 °C to 26.1 °C and with 3,295 mm/ year of rainfall. This area is rich in the diversity of flora and fauna. Pteridophyta is one of the flora that has a unique diversity of species and has the potential for tremendous utilization such as kunda Diliarosta*, Rehani ornamental plants, medicines and vegetable plants. The study was conducted in the Lubuak Ramadhani, Dewi Indriani Mato Kuciang area of Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra, which is currently being developed for tourism. The aim of this study obtain collect data and information about the diversity of Department of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, ferns in Lubuk Mato Kuciang. The activities of the study are conducted to collect species as Universitas Negeri Padang, INDONESIA. much as possible. Identification of fern species was carried out in the Laboratory of Educational Science. Mathematics and Science Faculty. Padang State University. The identification of flora Correspondence was analyzed descriptively. The identification species results were obtained through descriptive Skunda Diliarosta analysis. The results of this study obtains that there were 21 species of fern that include Department of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, 11 families. -

Panoramic view of its roadside flora reveals that it is replete with rich diversity of Pteridophytes.This is due to unique location of Mizoram, its topography with hills and valleys, and also its geology which provide immense ranges of microclimatic conditions which facilitates its growth. These pteridophytes are one of the source of carbon sink along the road. Some work related to pteridophytes have been reported by some researchers in some protected areas like sanctuaries and some forests in Mizoram. Till date no work has been reported on the diversity, ecology and IUCN red list status of pteridophytes growing along the Hill Roads in Mizoram. The paper enlists he current diversity, habitat and ecology of such pteridophytes. Effort has been made to ascertain their status in the IUCN red list and in Catalogue of Life (COL).The study is likely to help in further capacity augmentation/widening of these roads without harming the current diversity of the pteridophytes growing there .The study also provides a protocol to be followedfor monitoring and management of biodiversity along other roads of this hotspot. -
Apapane (Himatione Sanguinea)

JOHN RALPH 'Apapane Himatione sanguinea he 'Apapane is the most abundant species of Hawaiian honeycreeper and is perhaps best known for its wide- ranging flights in search of localized blooms of ō'hi'a (Metrosideros polymorpha) flowers, its primary food source. 'Apapane are common in mesic and wet forests above 1,000 m elevation on the islands of Hawai'i, Maui, and Kaua'i; locally common at higher elevations on O'ahu; and rare or absent on Lāna'i and Moloka'i. density may exceed 3,000 birds/km2 The 'Apapane and the 'I'iwi (Vestiaria at times of 'ōhi'a flowering, among coccinea) are the only two species of Hawaiian the highest for a noncolonial honeycreeper in which the same subspecies species. Birds in breeding condition occurs on more than one island, although may be found in any month of the historically this is also true of the now very rare year, but peak breeding occurs 'Ō'ū (Psittirostra psittacea). The highest densities February through June. Pairs of 'Apapane are found in forests dominated by remain together during the breeding 'ōhi'a and above the distribution of mosquitoes, season and defend a small area which transmit avian malaria and avian pox to around the nest, but most 'Apapane native birds. The widespread movements of the 'Apapane in response to the seasonal and patchy distribution of ' ōhi'a The flowering have important implications for disease Birds of transmission, since the North 'Apapane is a primary carrier of avian malaria and America avian pox in Hawai'i. -

The flowering behaviour of palm species may be a useful indicator of phylogenetic relationships and therefore evolutionary events. This paper presents a detailed histological study of reproductive development in coconut (Cocos nucifera L.), from initiation up to maturation of staminate and pistillate flowers. Reproductive development in coconut consists of a sequence of individual events that span more than two years. Floral morphogenesis is the longest event, taking about one year, while sex determination is a rapid process that occurs within one month. The inflorescence consists of different ultimate floral structural components. Pistillate flowers are borne in floral triads that are flanked by two functional staminate flowers. -

BOX 309 Bogor 16003 ABSTRACT Samosir Island is located in Toba Lake, North Sumatra. Although this island is looked barren, but some potential plants which are not used by people yet found there. Data of flora diversity in Samosir Island is still limited. The aims of this research was to inventory plant diversity in this Island. The method used in the research was explorative. The result showed that there were approximately 232 number of plants in the place. They consist of trees, shrubs, water plants, ferns, and orchids. Some of them are potential plants. Key words: Inventory, flora, Samosir Island PENGANTAR Penelitian ini bertujuan mendata jenis-jenis tumbuhan di Pulau Samosir beserta potensinya. Data ini diharapkan Pulau Samosir adalah sebuah pulau vulkanik di tengah dapat dijadikan data yang bermanfaat. Danau Toba di Provinsi Sumatra Utara. Sebuah pulau dalam pulau dengan ketinggian 1.000 m di atas permukaan laut BAHAN DAN CARA KERJA menjadikan pulau ini menjadi sebuah pulau yang menarik. Pulau Samosir terletak di Kabupaten Samosir dan memiliki Penelitian flora di kawasan Pulau Samosir difokuskan 9 kecamatan. di 4 Kecamatan yaitu Kecamatan Simanindo, Kecamatan Pulau Samosir terletak di tengah Danau Toba. Danau Ronggur Nihuta, Kecamatan Sianjur Mula Mula, serta Toba adalah sebuah danau vulkanik dengan ukuran panjang di Kecamatan Harian. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan 100 km dan lebar 30 km. Di pulau Samosir sendiri terdapat Agustus 2008. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian dua buah danau kecil sebagai daerah wisata yaitu Danau ini adalah metode eksploratif. -

Raffia is a kind of fast-growing palm tree, from the family of Arecaceae, encountered in marshy areas and along rivers. In this study, the“RaffiaBamboo”isthestalkofapalm,madeofafragilemarrowinsideathinshell,smoothandhardtoprotectthelatter.In our region, this material is widely used to build all the low-cost traditional houses and furniture, to make granaries storage of dry products, to build chicken coops, to make decoration. Thus, various jobs are organized around this material, with the fight against poverty. To our knowledge, information on its thermal properties is almost nonexistent. The experimental determination of the transverse thermal properties of the dry shell, the dry marrow, and the whole dry bamboo helped to find, for each, a specific heat, a thermal diffusivity, a thermal conductivity, and finally a thermal effusivity.
