The outbreak of COVID-19, a novel corona virus identified in late 2019, was declared a public health emergency of international concern by WHO on 30 January. Corona viruses are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory diseases.

Corona virus knows no borders. It is a global pandemic and our shared humanity demands a global response. This outbreak is a global challenge that does not discriminate and can affect anyone including downtrodden families, daily wages workers, widows & helpless & displaced people and which can only be addressed through international solidarity and cooperation.

The impact of this large-scale outbreak on poor families, children & aged people, especially those living in vulnerable circumstances, can be immense. As all know very well that Health system across the world are being overwhelmed and Economies are sliding towards depression. Failure to contain the virus will tear apart the lives of millions of families across the world. With the pandemic now spreading into some of the world’s developing countries like India, there is a real danger that the world will see a reversal of the gains made over the last 20 years and destruction of the rights of humanity. The virus is already having devastating consequences for common men, children, women, senior citizen & lower income group families and their rights. And, therefore, we must come together. Only a global response will stop the spread of the virus everywhere.
