  • Forms of Gymnastics
Forms of gymnastics Artistic gymnastics Artistic gymnastics is divided into Men's and Women's Gymnastics. Each group does different events ; Men compete on Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and High Bar , while women compete on Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam, and Floor Exercise . Though routines performed on each event may be short, they are physically exhausting. Nowadays, at the international level, competitions on the various apparatus consist of two different performance categories: compulsory and optional. Each country may use compulsory and optional routines as they wish. Women's events Vault In the vaulting events gymnasts: sprint down a 25 meter (about 82 feet) runway , jump onto a beatboard , (run/ take-off segment), land on the vaulting horse or vaulting table, then spring of this platform to a two footed landing . This may include one or more multiple saltos or somersaults , and/or twisting movements. In 2001, the traditional vaulting horse was replaced with a new apparatus, sometimes known as a tongue or table . Uneven Bars On the uneven bars (also known as asymmetric bars (UK ), the gymnast navigates two horizontal bars set at different heights. Gymnasts perform swinging, circling , transitional , and release moves. Gymnasts often mount the Uneven Bars using a beatboard (springboard). Balance Beam The gymnast performs a choreographed routine from 60 to 80 seconds in length consisting of leaps, acrobatic skills, somersaults etc. on a padded sprung beam. The event requires in particular, balance, flexibility and strength. Floor The floor event occurs on a carpeted 12m × 12m square. Female gymnasts perform a choreographed exercise 70 to 90 seconds long.

  • Postural Stability in Aerobic Gymnastics Specific Positions
DOI:10.2478/v10237-011-0020-0Sport Science Review, vol. XIX, No. 3-4, August 2010 Postural Stability in Aerobic Gymnastics Specific Positions Oľga KYSELOVIČOVÁ • Erika ZEMKOVÁ he study compares the effect of maximal jumps and sport-specific Texercises on parameters of balance. Two balance elements (free support vertical split and frontal split) were analyzed in a group of 8 aerobic gymnasts (average age = 17,0 ± 1,3 years, average body height = 163,0 ± 6,9 cm, average body weight = 54,5 ± 6,12 kg, BMI 20,4 ± 1,46 kg.m-2). The FiTRO Sway Check stabilographic system, allowing the monitoring of horizontal movement of centre of gravity with the help of dynamometric board, was used for assessment. Stabilographic parameter of the velocity of the centre of pressure (mean and in antero-posterior and medio-lateral directions) was registered at 100 Hz. The results show significant differences in average sway length in medio-lateral and antero-posterior direction, in both analysed difficulty elements. This indicates that balance impairment after exercise and its readjustments to pre-exercise level depends not only on intensity of proprioceptive stimulation but also on type of exercise. Keywords: aerobic gymnastics, balance, postural stability. Introduction Stability, as a representation of body control through strenght, coordination, and efficiency of movement, involves a complex interaction between sensory organs, central processing, and motor elements (Foran, 2001). Maintainance of stability is the baseline for the most of body movements. It is generally accepted that stability is considered as a main factor infuencing the sport performance such as biathlon (Seljunin & Fomin, 1988; Aalto et al, 1990), gymnastics (Vuillerme & Danion & Marin, 2001), figure skating, rockenroll (Pelikan et al, 2004 ), basketball (Perrin et al, ), tennis (Psalman & Kasa, 2001), windsurfing (Psalman, 1997)) or sailing (Psalman & Kasa, 2001) and even small changes in post-exercise postural stability can affect athlete’s performance.

  • MODIFIED FIELD TEST for DETERMINING the SPECIFIC ENDURANCE in RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS Maria Gateva National Sports Academy „Vassil Levski”, Sofia, Bulgaria
JOURNAL of Applied Sports Sciences 01/2019 MODIFIED FIELD TEST FOR DETERMINING THE SPECIFIC ENDURANCE IN RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS Maria Gateva National Sports Academy „Vassil Levski”, Sofia, Bulgaria ABSTRACT Several attempts have been made in the past years to create adequate tests in order to de terminate the fitness level of the athletes in the gymnastics disciplines. Considering the high- intensity movements and the total routine time, we hypostatized that anaerobic metabolism is a determinant for rhythmic gymnastics performance. Based on the physiological indicators of a competitive routine the aim of this study was to create a reliable and valid specific field test to measure the fitness level (specific endurance) of the rhythmic gymnasts competing at national and international level. 12 high level gymnasts aged 15.7 ± 2.1 were involved in this study. The testing was done twice – once in the preparatory and second time in the competitive period. Two tests were performed in the field – the specific anaerobic test and a competitive routine. The heart rate and the blood lactate were recorded during and after the load. Specific endurance gymnastics field test is a sim ple routine including specific but very basic rhythmic gymnastics exercises from each body group – steps; waves; balances; pivots; leaps and acrobatic elements with very low level of difficulties. The maximal blood lactate concentration levels recorded in both tests and periods did not show any significant difference and varied between 7.2 to 8.4 mmol/l. All of the heart rate values after the loads indicated high work intensity – above 185 bpm. There were significant differences in both exercises (specific test & routine) between the preparatory and the competitive routine.
