The American Board began evangelism among Armenians, and the education and the social services became part of the Protestant movement in the Near East. Following efforts to Christianize the nations through evangelism, in the mid of 19th century, Merzifon (Marsovan) province was chosen due to its location in the middle of Anatolia and Merzifon Anatolia College was designed as an important ‘station’ in order to support the American missionary movements. Then, between the years 1886 and 1938, ABCFM built strong connections with Anatolia College in Merzifon to gain a very important strategic position. In the context of the First World War, the function of the Anatolia College buildings has changed for different aims; the military used these buildings as the Artillery Regiment. After the war the ABCFM’s network broke down but its strong contribution to present education in Turkey is inevitable. The site as a heritage is still an active part of the city’s cultural life with some existing buildings of ABCFM supporting culture and education.

Long All rights reserved ABSTRACT The Emergence of the American University Abroad Kyle A. Long This dissertation explores the relations of independent American universities abroad to one another and to American higher education through a mixed-method comparative case study of three eras (1919-1945; 1946-1990; 1991-2017). Applying insights from the study of organizations and social movements, it investigates 1) the formation, evolution, and eventual maturation of an organizational field of American universities abroad; and 2) the strategies field actors utilize to align frames about American universities abroad with values of potential supporters in the United States. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze data that come from archives, news media, institutional websites, interviews, and an original database. Findings have implications for study of international higher education, American higher education, and American foreign relations. I argue that over the course of a century, the American university abroad has emerged as a distinct institution and structural feature of American higher education. Episodic cooperation among various American universities abroad has served to organize the field to the extent that its “rules” eventually became institutionalized. Instances of continuity and change in the field’s rules are often the result of pressures emanating from U.S. higher education and foreign policies. Meanwhile, the field of American universities abroad, representing the frontier of American higher education, has continually enlarged the latter’s boundaries with each successive period of global expansion.

    International Baccalaureate Schools in Greece Association (IBSIGA) EXAMINATION ROUTE for May 2021 15th February 2021 Dear students and parents, The International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization recently announced that IB Diploma exams for May 2021 would be held in the IB World Schools in Greece. This decision is consistent with the IB Organization's verdict for other IB World Schools in Europe and the rest of the world. In making this decision, the IB gathered data regarding the schools' capacity to administer the exams in May and considered whether the legislation and restrictive measures in each country permit the safe conduct of the examinations. In compliance with the IB Organisation's decision, the IB World Schools in Greece will proceed with the preparation of students for the May 2021 examination session. The priority of all schools in the IB Schools in Greece Association is the students’ and school community's safety and health. To this end, each school will proceed to conduct the examinations in full compliance with all health and safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The International Baccalaureate Schools in Greece Association has been in direct communication and cooperation with the IB Organization and regularly informs them about the evolving situation in terms of restrictive measures. If circumstances in May prohibit administering the IB Diploma exams in Greece, all schools will be ready to follow the non- exam route, which is the alternative assessment path. This decision lies with the IB and is not at the discretion of each school. We completely understand our students’ and their families' anguish, and we realize that it is a challenging period that we are all going through.
