    NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Ministry of Agriculture 2015AGRI0060-001533 Sept. 17, 2015 Organic Week Celebrations to include consultation results COMOX ʹOrganic Week celebrations have begun with the B.C. government issuing a proclamation that Sept. 19-27, 2015, will be known as ͞Organic Week͟in British Columbia, as well as indicating the results of recent consultation with B.C.͛s organic sector will be announced soon. From January to March 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture consulted with B.C. organic sector stakeholders on how to best strengthen the awareness and reputation of B.C.͛s organically produced agri-foods, locally, across Canada, and around the globe. The consultations involved regulating the use of the term ͞organic͕͟developing transitional strategies that support farmers to become certified, and supporting the creation of a brand to market B.C. organic foods. Organic Week promotes organic practices by raising the profile of the BC Certified Organic checkmark and informing consumers about the wide range of organic products available throughout British Columbia. On behalf of B.C. Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick, Comox Valley MLA Don McRae will present the proclamation to the Certified Organic Associations of BC (COABC) co-president Carmen Wakeling this evening at the Comox Valley Farmers Market. The proclamation acknowledges the contribution COABC and the organic sector make to the economic and environmental well- being of British Columbia and celebrates the valuable contributions of the organic sector in providing a healthy, sustainable organic food system. Letnick will be attending the 10th annual Organic Okanagan Festival in Kelowna on Sunday, Sept. 27.     2013 UBCM Report The following report provides an overview of activities of the Islands Trust Executive Committee and senior staff while attending the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver, September 16-20, 2013. Chair Sheila Malcolmson and Vice Chairs Ken Hancock and Peter Luckham attended the convention on behalf of the Islands Trust Council, Trustee Jan Hagedorn attended on behalf of the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee, and Municipal Trustee Andrew Stone attended the convention on behalf of the Bowen Island Municipal Council. Chief Administrative Officer Linda Adams also attended the conference. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 A SNAPSHOT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT – FIRST NATIONS LANDSCAPE (PL) A panel discussion hosted by Mr. Justice Murray Sinclair. Panellists were: • Chief Robert Joseph • Grand Chief Edward John • Minister John Rustad • Assistant Deputy Minister Colleen Swords • Huu-Ay-Aht First Nation Councillor John Jack (also Alberni Clayoquot Regional District director). Panellists were asked four questions by Justice Sinclair: 1. What do you think about reconciliation? 2. What is the most important lesson learned from residential schools? 3. Why is reconciliation important to local government? 4. What can we (all) do in light of what we know? The session began with Councillor John Jack: “reconciliation is like couples counselling on a grand scale". The following are the messages taken from the panellists’ answers to the questions: • We need to do things differently; we need to understand the inequities of the past and those of the present. • There are social barriers that are limiting the ability for all of us to reach our full potential.

    PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA ORDER OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL Order in Council No. 243 , Approved and Ordered 1 0 2013 Li' nt Governor Executive Council Chambers, Victoria On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, orders that, effective June 10, 2013, (a) all previous appointments of acting ministers are rescinded, (b) a minister named in Column 3 of the attached Schedule (the "first acting minister") is appointed acting minister for the minister named opposite in Column 2 (the "primary minister") (i) when the primary minister is absent from the capital or is unable through illness to perform the duties of his or her office, or (ii) for a matter with respect to which the primary minister has a conflict of interest or an apparent conflict of interest, and (c) a minister named in Column 4 of the attached Schedule is appointed acting minister for the first acting minister named opposite in Column 3 in relation to the duties of that first acting minister under paragraph (b) (i) when the first acting minister is absent from the capital or is unable through illness to perform those duties, or (ii) those duties relate to a matter with respect to which the first acting minister has a conflict of interest or an apparent conflict of interest.
