Second Place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom Dec 14, 2020 18:25 CET Second place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom Sara Hector's first World Cup podium finish since 2014. The 28-year-old Swedish athlete finished second in the first Giant Slalom in Courchevel on Saturday. Previously, Sara Hector had notched up two World Cup podium finishes. Both date back to December 2014. In the Giant Slalom in Aare she also finished second, while in the Giant Slalom in Kühtai she stood on top of the podium. "I'm extremely pleased, that was really great today. The conditions were very difficult because it was snowing during the race, and so we had poor visibility and an uneven slope. I just thought I'd push as hard as I could. I'm so happy, I've worked so long for this, waiting for another podium finish," said Sara Hector joyfully at the finish. After the first run the 28-year-old was in fourth place. On the second run she crossed the finish line with the second fastest time. "If you know her story, then you'll know why this is such a cool achievement. It's an awesome result. Her service man is Reinhard Berbig, who also works for Tina Weirather. We have invested in her and it is paying off," said HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. Also bagging points on Saturday, the Swiss athlete Lara Gut-Behrami finished ninth, Franziska Gritsch from Austria finished 14th, Elene Curtoni from Italy 17th and Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway 20th. The best Giant Slalom result for Lara Gut-Behrami since January 2017 Sunday's Giant Slalom was moved to Monday. Lara Gut-Behrami finished seventh to celebrate her best Giant Slalom result in the World Cup since January 2017. Sara Hector finished in 10th place, Elena Curtoni from Italy was 14th and Maria Therese Tviberg from Norway 15th. The American athlete A J Hurt achieved her best World Cup result so far finishing in 18th place. "Lara Gut-Behrami has trained well and put the focus back on the Giant Slalom. This explains her good and consistent results. I'm hoping that she will soon be racing back towards the podium in the Giant Slalom," said Rainer Salzgeber. Alexis Pinturault is the sole leader in the overall World Cup The HEAD team just missed the podium in the Super-G in Val d'Isere on Saturday. There were five HEAD World Cup Rebels among the top 11: Vincent Kriechmayr from Austria finished in fifth place, Kjetil Jansrud from Norway in sixth place, Alexis Pinturault from France was seventh, Beat Feuz from Switzerland tenth and Matthias Mayer from Austria eleventh. "Unfortunately, I made a mistake at a tricky point on the run, and that held me back. Otherwise, the rest of the run went quite well," explained Vincent Kriechmayr. Finishing in fifth place, Johan Clarey was the best HEAD World Cup Rebel in the Downhill in Val d'Isere on Sunday. Just behind the French athlete was Beat Feuz from Switzerland. Matthias Mayer was in eighth place and Ralph Weber from Switzerland 16th. In the World Cup overall ranking, Alexis Pinturault is now the sole leader with 276 points. For the athletes who have ended their careers this season, I would like to express gratitude on behalf of everybody at HEAD for all they have done to promote the success of our team and our company," says HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "We wanted to bring in Justin Murisier two years ago. He's a really cool athlete and the way he skis fits in well with us," explains Salzgeber. "The two new athletes from Norway - Timon Haugan and Fabian Wilkens Solheim - make an excellent team in the technical disciplines together with Jonathan Nordbotten and Atle Lie Mcgrath in Norway. Estelle Alphand is an athlete to watch out for - she skis very fast, but has not been able to translate this into results yet. Hopefully, she will take it to the next level with us. • Super-G Crystal Globe Mikaela Shiffrin Weirather and Schmidhofer
PREVIEW Ladies’ SUPER G – Thursday 14 Mar 2019 Super-G crystal globe • Three skiers are still in contention for the ladies' super-G crystal globe: Mikaela Shiffrin (300 points), Tina Weirather (268), and Nicole Schmidhofer (253). • Shiffrin has already secured the overall and slalom crystal globe this season. She is also still in the running for the super-G and giant slalom crystal globe. Only two women have won four World Cup standings in one season: Lindsey Vonn (2010, 2012) and Tina Maze (2013). • Maze is also the last woman to win a crystal globe in a technical and speed event in the same year as she won the super-G and giant slalom standings in 2013. • No alpine skier, male or female, has ever won the overall, slalom, giant slalom and super-G crystal globes in one year. • Weirather (2017, 2018) can become the fifth woman to win the super-G crystal globe at least three times, after Vonn (5), Katja Seizinger (5), Carole Merle (4) and Renate Götschl (3). • Vonn (4, 2009-2012), Seizinger (4, 1993-1996) and Merle (4, 1989-1992) are the only women to win the ladies' super-G classification at least three seasons in a row. • Schmidhofer could become the first Austrian woman since Götschl in 2007 to win the super-G crystal globe. • Coming into the races in Soldeu, Schmidhofer is also in contention for the downhill crystal globe. Five women have won the downhill and super-G standings in the same year of which Vonn was the last to do so in 2015.

Jan 27, 2020 08:43 CET Victory for Mayer and Jansrud with new models of ski Double victory in the Downhill for Matthias Mayer and Beat Feuz, double victory in the Super-G for Kjetil Jansrud and Mayer. Kitzbühel was dominated by the HEAD World Cup Rebels. Both winners - Mayer and Jansrud - used a new model of ski. That was topped by Elena Curtoni in the Downhill in Bansko on Saturday with her first World Cup victory. Lara Gut-Behrami celebrates her first podium finish this season in the Super-G. "It was a great weekend. Celebrating a double victory in both speed disciplines in Kitzbühel makes it perfect. Kjetil was using a new model of ski in the Super-G, as did Matthias in the Downhill," reports HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "Saturday was a superb day for our women's team. Elena was already very close on Friday. She has fought long and hard for this victory. Lara's third place is also extremely pleasing. That was a big step in the right direction." Bib number 13 brought luck to Matthias Mayer. When the Austrian athlete swooped into the finish at the end of the Downhill in Kitzbühel on Saturday, he bowed to the crowd and shouted out in joy. Mayer knew that he had served up an awesome race. "There's nothing more awesome for me than swooping into the finish in front of thousands of spectators. It is unbelievable. It is only natural to feel the tension. I was looking forward to this run because I knew that I had a good chance of winning," explained Matthias Mayer at the finish.

Sports FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2016 Shock at player brawls in Argentine friendlies BUENOS AIRES: Mass on-pitch brawls between players in supposedly “friendly” matches between top Argentine football teams have driven the government to vow to end soccer violence. Long used to match-day violence involving hooligan gangs, Argentine fans saw ugly rucks erupt on the pitch itself at two recent high-profile friend- lies. Argentina’s new President Mauricio Macri, himself a fan and former chairman of top team Boca Juniors, responded by vowing to crack down on soccer violence. Last week’s Buenos Aires summer derby between the country’s two most popular teams, Boca and their fierce rivals River Plate, descended into a full-on punch-up. A match already marred by cynical fouls and insults degen- erated after a clash between former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez of Boca and a River defender. Five players were sent off and River Plate’s goalkeeper was hit by a projectile from the stands, but the match carried on to end in a 1-0 win for River.
