  • Eight More New HEAD World Cup Rebels
Aug 28, 2020 13:35 CEST Eight more new HEAD World Cup Rebels Following Vincent Kriechmayr's lead, another eight athletes join the HEAD World Cup Rebels: Justin Murisier, Timon Haugan, Fabian Wilkens Solheim, Estelle Alphand, Laura Gauché, Marie-Michèle Gagnon, Samu Torsti and Michaela Heider. At the same time Anna Veith (AUT), Tina Weirather (LIE), Andre Myhrer (SWE), Matts Olsson (SWE) and Stian Saugestad (NOR) cross the finish line in their careers. "These nine newcomers give us a very strong edge for the coming season. Overall, we are now looking at a rejuvenated team. The plan is for the well- established athletes to repeat their outstanding performance while the newbies in the team move up a gear. For the athletes who have ended their careers this season, I would like to express gratitude on behalf of everybody at HEAD for all they have done to promote the success of our team and our company," says HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "We wanted to bring in Justin Murisier two years ago. He's a really cool athlete and the way he skis fits in well with us," explains Salzgeber. "The two new athletes from Norway - Timon Haugan and Fabian Wilkens Solheim - make an excellent team in the technical disciplines together with Jonathan Nordbotten and Atle Lie Mcgrath in Norway. Estelle Alphand is an athlete to watch out for - she skis very fast, but has not been able to translate this into results yet. Hopefully, she will take it to the next level with us. Marie-Michèle Gagnon is a well-known athlete and currently one of the big names in Canada.

  • The Supreme Discipline of Mountaineering
The Supreme Discipline of Mountaineering To what heaven would it lead me to climb a mountain that flew? Christoph Ransmayr, “The Flying Mountain” MMM Corones on Kronplatz – between the Gader Valley, Olang and the Puster Valley – is the final act in the Messner Mountain Museum project (which comprises a total of six facilities). On the edge of South Tyrol’s mountain plateau with the most spectacular views, in the unique museum architecture created by Zaha Hadid, I present the crowning of traditional mountaineering. Kronplatz offers views beyond the borders of South Tyrol to all points of the compass: from the Lienz Dolomites in the east to the Ortler in the west, from the Marmolada in the south to the Zillertal Alps in the north. The museum is a mirror of the world of my childhood - the Geislerspitzen, the central buttress of the Heiligkreuzkofel (the most difficult climb in my whole life) and the glaciated granite mountains of the Ahrn Valley. On Kronplatz I present the development of modern mountaineering and 250 years of progress with regard to the equipment. I speak of triumphs and tragedies on the world’s most famous peaks – the Matterhorn, Cerro Torre, K2 – and the depiction of our activity, however contradictory it may seem. As in my other museums, I shed light on alpinism with the help of relics, thoughts, works of art (pictures and sculptures) and by reflecting the outside mountain backcloth in the interior of MMM Corones. As the storyteller of traditional mountaineering, it is not my intention to judge or dramatise but simply to condense human experience of a world that is my world, of the 250-year-old contest between man and the mountain.

  • Second Place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom
Dec 14, 2020 18:25 CET Second place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom Sara Hector's first World Cup podium finish since 2014. The 28-year-old Swedish athlete finished second in the first Giant Slalom in Courchevel on Saturday. Previously, Sara Hector had notched up two World Cup podium finishes. Both date back to December 2014. In the Giant Slalom in Aare she also finished second, while in the Giant Slalom in Kühtai she stood on top of the podium. "I'm extremely pleased, that was really great today. The conditions were very difficult because it was snowing during the race, and so we had poor visibility and an uneven slope. I just thought I'd push as hard as I could. I'm so happy, I've worked so long for this, waiting for another podium finish," said Sara Hector joyfully at the finish. After the first run the 28-year-old was in fourth place. On the second run she crossed the finish line with the second fastest time. "If you know her story, then you'll know why this is such a cool achievement. It's an awesome result. Her service man is Reinhard Berbig, who also works for Tina Weirather. We have invested in her and it is paying off," said HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. Also bagging points on Saturday, the Swiss athlete Lara Gut-Behrami finished ninth, Franziska Gritsch from Austria finished 14th, Elene Curtoni from Italy 17th and Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway 20th. The best Giant Slalom result for Lara Gut-Behrami since January 2017 Sunday's Giant Slalom was moved to Monday.
