Eight More New HEAD World Cup Rebels Aug 28, 2020 13:35 CEST Eight more new HEAD World Cup Rebels Following Vincent Kriechmayr's lead, another eight athletes join the HEAD World Cup Rebels: Justin Murisier, Timon Haugan, Fabian Wilkens Solheim, Estelle Alphand, Laura Gauché, Marie-Michèle Gagnon, Samu Torsti and Michaela Heider. At the same time Anna Veith (AUT), Tina Weirather (LIE), Andre Myhrer (SWE), Matts Olsson (SWE) and Stian Saugestad (NOR) cross the finish line in their careers. "These nine newcomers give us a very strong edge for the coming season. Overall, we are now looking at a rejuvenated team. The plan is for the well- established athletes to repeat their outstanding performance while the newbies in the team move up a gear. For the athletes who have ended their careers this season, I would like to express gratitude on behalf of everybody at HEAD for all they have done to promote the success of our team and our company," says HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "We wanted to bring in Justin Murisier two years ago. He's a really cool athlete and the way he skis fits in well with us," explains Salzgeber. "The two new athletes from Norway - Timon Haugan and Fabian Wilkens Solheim - make an excellent team in the technical disciplines together with Jonathan Nordbotten and Atle Lie Mcgrath in Norway. Estelle Alphand is an athlete to watch out for - she skis very fast, but has not been able to translate this into results yet. Hopefully, she will take it to the next level with us. Marie-Michèle Gagnon is a well-known athlete and currently one of the big names in Canada. She wants to focus more on the speed disciplines in the coming season. In France, we have a great men's team, and with Laura Gauché, we now have the opportunity to boost the women's team. Based on our strategy of wanting to have an exciting athlete on the team in every country, signing Samu Torsti is a good thing for us. In Austria, some of the speed discipline specialists are no longer in the team, so we hope that Michaela Heider is going to give us a boost in this sector." • Second Place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom
Dec 14, 2020 18:25 CET Second place for Sara Hector in the Courchevel Giant Slalom Sara Hector's first World Cup podium finish since 2014. The 28-year-old Swedish athlete finished second in the first Giant Slalom in Courchevel on Saturday. Previously, Sara Hector had notched up two World Cup podium finishes. Both date back to December 2014. In the Giant Slalom in Aare she also finished second, while in the Giant Slalom in Kühtai she stood on top of the podium. "I'm extremely pleased, that was really great today. The conditions were very difficult because it was snowing during the race, and so we had poor visibility and an uneven slope. I just thought I'd push as hard as I could. I'm so happy, I've worked so long for this, waiting for another podium finish," said Sara Hector joyfully at the finish. After the first run the 28-year-old was in fourth place. On the second run she crossed the finish line with the second fastest time. "If you know her story, then you'll know why this is such a cool achievement. It's an awesome result. Her service man is Reinhard Berbig, who also works for Tina Weirather. We have invested in her and it is paying off," said HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. Also bagging points on Saturday, the Swiss athlete Lara Gut-Behrami finished ninth, Franziska Gritsch from Austria finished 14th, Elene Curtoni from Italy 17th and Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway 20th. The best Giant Slalom result for Lara Gut-Behrami since January 2017 Sunday's Giant Slalom was moved to Monday.

  • Super-G Crystal Globe Mikaela Shiffrin Weirather and Schmidhofer
PREVIEW Ladies’ SUPER G – Thursday 14 Mar 2019 Super-G crystal globe • Three skiers are still in contention for the ladies' super-G crystal globe: Mikaela Shiffrin (300 points), Tina Weirather (268), and Nicole Schmidhofer (253). • Shiffrin has already secured the overall and slalom crystal globe this season. She is also still in the running for the super-G and giant slalom crystal globe. Only two women have won four World Cup standings in one season: Lindsey Vonn (2010, 2012) and Tina Maze (2013). • Maze is also the last woman to win a crystal globe in a technical and speed event in the same year as she won the super-G and giant slalom standings in 2013. • No alpine skier, male or female, has ever won the overall, slalom, giant slalom and super-G crystal globes in one year. • Weirather (2017, 2018) can become the fifth woman to win the super-G crystal globe at least three times, after Vonn (5), Katja Seizinger (5), Carole Merle (4) and Renate Götschl (3). • Vonn (4, 2009-2012), Seizinger (4, 1993-1996) and Merle (4, 1989-1992) are the only women to win the ladies' super-G classification at least three seasons in a row. • Schmidhofer could become the first Austrian woman since Götschl in 2007 to win the super-G crystal globe. • Coming into the races in Soldeu, Schmidhofer is also in contention for the downhill crystal globe. Five women have won the downhill and super-G standings in the same year of which Vonn was the last to do so in 2015.
