The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has been based on the main campus of the University of the West of England in north Bristol for over 15 years. We are a national organisation responsible for distributing over £7 billion to universities and colleges. We work in partnership with many organisations across the country and many of our 260 staff travel regularly to meetings. Education and schools Bristol has a wide range of educational facilities to meet the varied needs of children of school age and under. Significant infrastructural investment is underway through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which has allocated £220 million to the building of four new schools and the refurbishment of six existing schools. Bristol is the first UK city to replace or refurbish all of its secondary schools. In addition four new secondary school buildings have been completed and funded by the PFI Grouped School Project, namely, Henbury School, Portway School, Monks Park and Bedminster Down.
