Designed to introduce sailors as young as 10 to the fun and challenges of sailing a square rigged “tall ship,” the ship is incredibly cute!

The Pelican Designed as a sail training ship, the Pelican of London is unique among square riggers. Her hull form was derived from the Elite French clippers of the late 19th century and despite total reconstruction of the ship, the hull of the original 1946 Pelican remains.

Bristol Cardboard Boat Race Saturday, 1.15pm In support of the Learning Ships project, local teams have created seaworthy vessels out of cardboard! The boat that makes it to the end of the 250 metre course the fastest wins. There are special prizes for the most innovative and least seaworthy vessels. All funds raised by the race will support the Young Shipwright Workshops for primary schools. In the lead up to the festival, competitors made their ‘carriers’ to compete in a race to a buoy during the festival. The aircraft (aka very small drones) will then fly Cardboard Boat Race out to the ‘carriers,’ land and have to return to the jetty to win.

ewfoundland dogs have been the St. Bernards of the sea for N hundreds of years and now they are helping to make lifesaving fun for the next generation of lifeguards. Each week a group of magnificent 14 stone Newfoundlands, the canine members of the Newfound Friends Society, arrive at a lake in the Cotswolds to hone their lifesaving skills along with their human lifeguard companions. The dogs are so enthusiastic about the training that it certainly rubs off on the young trainees. These incredible dogs raise money for Children’s charities with their daring displays. They’ve appeared on Blue Peter, GMTV, Countryfile, ITV and the One Show.
