The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between peer group compo- sition in sports programmes and positive youth development (PYD) in disadvantaged girls, as well as to determine whether it was moderated by personal characteristics. Two hundred young women aged between 10 and 24 completed a questionnaire including, among others, the “Youth Experience Survey for Sport” (YES-S) (MacDonald, Côté, Eys, & Deakin, 2012) and questions regarding participants’ socio-economic characteristics (i.e., nationality, education, family situation). Multilevel regression analyses were performed to take into account the hierarchical data structure. At the group level, a higher percentage of girls from a low educational track and with a migration background predicted great- er PYD, as indicated by higher levels of personal and social skills, cognitive skills and goal setting. -

Sports Medicine - Open (2015) 1:15 DOI 10.1186/s40798-015-0025-9 ORIGINAL RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access Spontaneous Entrainment of Running Cadence to Music Tempo Edith Van Dyck1*, Bart Moens1, Jeska Buhmann1, Michiel Demey1, Esther Coorevits1, Simone Dalla Bella2 and Marc Leman1 Abstract Background: Since accumulating evidence suggests that step rate is strongly associated with running-related injuries, it is important for runners to exercise at an appropriate running cadence. As music tempo has been shown to be capable of impacting exercise performance of repetitive endurance activities, it might also serve as a means to (re)shape running cadence. The aim of this study was to validate the impact of music tempo on running cadence. Methods: Sixteen recreational runners ran four laps of 200 m (i.e. 800 m in total); this task was repeated 11 times with a short break in between each four-lap sequence. During the first lap of a sequence, participants ran at a self-paced tempo without musical accompaniment. Running cadence of the first lap was registered, and during the second lap, music with a tempo matching the assessed cadence was played. In the final two laps, the music tempo was either increased/decreased by 3.00, 2.50, 2.00, 1.50, or 1.00 % or was kept stable. This range was chosen since the aim of this study was to test spontaneous entrainment (an average person can distinguish tempo variations of about 4 %). Each participant performed all conditions. Results: Imperceptible shifts in musical tempi in proportion to the runner’s self-paced running tempo significantly influenced running cadence (p < .001). -

THOMAS HARSEM BIOGRAPHY Thomas Harsem is a German music producer based in Uppsala, Sweden. Offering a full range of services from songwriting to recording, mixing and mastering — Thomas is dedicated to every step of contemporary music production. He started out in 2003 as part of the Hahn&Hahn production duo in Stuttgart, Germany. Since then Thomas has been working with numerous independent artists as well as major label acts from Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland (Still Parade, Intergalactic Lovers, Jonathan Johansson, Immanu El, Drive Like Maria, Paucker, Crash Tokio, Nena, Serafyn). With access to a broad selection of recording studios throughout Europe, session work can take place anywhere according to specific location and budget needs. Thomas’ studio is located in central Uppsala. Thomas gained attention with the Belgian band INTERGALACTIC LOVERS — producing and co-writing their highly acclaimed debut album «Greetings & Salutations» (EMI, 2011) as well as the sophomore release «Little Heavy Burdens» (Warner Music, 2014). Both albums reached gold status in Belgium. JONATHAN JOHANSSON & JOHAN ECKEBORN’s album «Ett språk för dom dömda» (Sony Music, 2013) has been very well received in the nordic countries. The music was originally written as score to a theatre play based on Bram Stoker’s «Dracula», Thomas engineered and mixed the album. His work with Berlin-based artist STILL PARADE resulted in the «Fields» EP (Serve&Volley, 2014). Its haunting single «Actors» was STILL PARADE’s first release and is counting over 1.5 million plays on Spotify. Most recently Thomas has been working with SEASIDE HEIGHTS (SE), IMMANU EL (SE), LAINA (DE), DAVID JOSEPHSON (SE) and DRIVE LIKE MARIA (NL).
