White stone fruit and macadamia, finishingwith an almond skin and jasmine note. Textured, yet crisp. Fiano di Avellino, 2018 I 10/47 100% Fiano di Avellino. Complex, aroma of flowers, dried fruit and spices. Rich, warm, soft, fresh. Biancolella, 2018 I 10/47 100% Bianco/el/a. Island of lschia. A.fine balance of salty volcanic air and sweet honey blossom. Touch of creamy oak, cleansed by a gentle, persistent acid. Moscato, 2018 I 9 Peaches, apricots, and ginger that tastes like sunshine. Sunny, bright cherry fruit with darker plum-like Undertones. Easy, medium bodied and friendly. Primo Antico, 2017 I 12/58 100% Primitivo. Sumptuous, ample and intense. Perfumes and aromas from blueberry, roasted coffee beans, cassis, tobacco and violets. Massive on the palate, yet very balanced. Quattro Spine, 2015 I 16/76 40% Aglianico, 40% Tintore, 20% Piedirosso. Starts out deep and full with dark berry, tar and licorice, yet finishes soft with white pepper and wild herbs that evokes the vineyard's warm sea coast air. Vigna Piancastelli, 2014 I 16/76 70% Pallagrello Nero, 30% Casavecchia. A blend of nearly extinct red grapes, with deep black fruits and dark spices, while never feeling too big. Great harmony and unexpected softness. Nero 70, 2017 I 78 50% Aglianico, 50% Piedirosso. A velvety, full-bodied red reminiscent of Amarone, with spices woven into red fruits that keep changing and developing. Rapicano, 2014 I 80 100% Aglianico. Plums, clove, vanilla, and a lovely espresso bitterness. A grand style that harkens back to the iconic Falernum wine beloved by the Romans. lrpinia, Terre d'Eclano, 2015 I go 100% Aglianico. Blackberries, bay leaf and stones. Elegant, serious, yet so approachable. From Luigi Maio, a leading voice in Campania's wine revival. Taurasi Radici, 1999 I go 100% Aglianico. Volcanic ash, dark sour cherries, incense and dried herbs. 20 years old, with a long.finish that tastes like it could go 20 more. Montevetrano, 2014 I go 50% Cabernet, 20% Mer/at, 30% Aglianico. Wild blackberries, licorice and leather. Abundant, yet silky tannins, with a grape blend and structure akin to a Super Tuscan. Galardi, Terre di Lavoro, 2011 I 100 80% Aglianico, 20% Piedirosso. The Galardi family makes only one wine and this is it. One sip of the graphite, smoked cherries and fresh earth and you know why. A benchmark in Roccamonfina. .

  • Villa Dei Misteri: the Ancient Wine of Pompeii
    Villa dei Misteri: The Ancient Wine of Pompeii Everybody knows Italy has a long winemaking historydating back to Roman times, but few are aware of the fact that the same wine the citizens of ancient Rome used to drink is still being produced today. Pompeii (in the Campania region in the south of Italy) is 2000 years old. The city was covered with lava after the volcano, Vesuvio, erupted in 79 B.C. These 18th-century ruins are now visited by more than 2 million tourists each year. What’s new today is the active wine production taking place at that archaeological site! In the 1980s, the Superintendency for the Archaeological Heritagestarted a search beneath the archaeological site to discover the original plants, trees and flowers and recover them after 2000 years had passed. During their research, they discovered grapevines. They turned to Mastroberardino, an historical local winery, known for their efforts to protect and enhance thenative varieties. Researchers asked the winery to handle this piece of the research. The study progressed through several phases and the analysis of the berries and vines remainsin laboratory along with the casts of plants, similar to the amazing casts of the bodies trappedunder the lava. Based upon where the vines were located, the winery was able to reproduce the grapevines with the same density as the original ones Thanks to the numerous books written by Romans, such as Naturalis Historia by Plinio, it was possible to learn more about ancient farming techniques of the vines. In 2001, from this fascinating recovery, "Villa dei Misteri" wine (named after one of the most impressive villas in Pompeii) was born.
