. Mandated to provide transportation of goods and passengers within Botswana, efficiently, safely and cost-effectively, along sound commercial lines.

Mosetse-Livingstone Rail Line

Project Characteristics

Mosetse-Kazungula: 367 km - Provides a line from Mosetse, connecting to and beyond through the Kazungula bridge. - Rail line is part of the North South Corridor (NSC)

BOTSWANA Project Benefits - Gate-way to North African markets promoting inter regional trade - Connects North African region to maritime ports in - Reduction of haulage traffic on roads - Opportunity for tourism industry – Tourist - Alternative transport mode for Agricultural products from Pandamatenga Farms in Botswana Project Status - Feasibility study at tender stage Mmamabula-Lephalale Rail Line

Project Characteristics - Over 200 billion tons coal deposits found in Botswana (at least two thirds of Africa’s coal resource) BOTSWANA - Project aims to link these coal deposits to South African heavy haul lines (Limpopo Province) - Line connects Mmamabula in Botswana to Lephalale in South Africa - Need to build a bridge across Limpopo River

Project Benefits - Gate way to South African ports for the coal market - Shortest route for NSC if coupled with Mosetse-Kazungula line Mmamabula-Lephalale: 56 km - Employment opportunities for region. - Alternative route into South Africa

Project Characteristics - Botswana, and governments intend to create an alternative route to the deep sea port of Techobanine. - The project is aimed at assisting Botswana with an alternative route to the ports - The missing link will take off from Selibe Phikwe in Botswana and connect to Rutenga in Zimbabwe and proceed to Techobanine through the Chicualacuala line. - First 600 km to Rutenga is a new line while the rest of the line is an upgrade to a heavy haul line. Project Benefits 1,100 km - The line will facilitate export of coal from Botswana - Alternative route for Botswana on import of petroleum products - Line forms part of the NSC if coupled with Mosetse-Kazungula rail line Project Status - Discussions between the three states are on-going Rolling Stock Maintenance Workshop

Project Characteristics - The purpose of the facility is to undertake running maintenance, out of course repairs as well refurbishment programs for rolling stock - The project is also aimed to help eliminate maintenance backlog and reduce turnaround time

• The Dry Port infrastructure was developed from 2013 to 2014 on a 36,233 square metre Sea Rail Dry Port - Services
