L'ACCORDO MILANO Accordo triennale tra Mediaset e il gruppo Tim per la distribuzione non esclusiva dell'app Mediaset Infinity sulla piattaforma Timvision. The embattled Golden Globes on Wednesday announced changes that will allow foreign language and animated films to contend for the Hollywood award show’s top prizes.

Organizers are scrambling to reform the influential but scandal-hit Globes after NBC canceled next year’s ceremony amid widespread and vocal criticism of the group’s record on diversity and transparency. “Cinema Cell” Concept Offers Up An Alternative Way To Go To The Movies In A Pandemic-Hit World

Earlier this year I spoke to the founder of Oma Cinema, a company looking to reinvent the traditional layout of cinema with a series of mini-wall pods that combine the feeling of watching from home with the communal collective experience of watching in a movie theatre. While the Oma concept wasn’t designed primarily with post-pandemic cinema viewing in mind its pod idea seemed like a very effective answer to the problem. Now another cinematic idea has arrived that takes the pod concept a step further and is aimed squarely at providing entertainment in a COVID-present world. 125121

It’s call 'Cinema Cell' and according to founder Nikolay Andreyev, the pandemic is presenting an existential threat to the cinema experience. He says streaming services will impact the traditional cinema business model to such an extent that they will be “cinema killers”, that will cause cinemas to “disappear without a trace, like a push-button telephone or Kodak film.” It’s dramatic talk, especially when followed by the claim that Cinema Cell has “found a way how to save the industry.”

The solution? Small, isolated, cinematic pods containing a few seats, a giant screen, and a snack machine. Rather than a projection system, images would be delivered via an 8K capable 110in display along with a surround-sound system. Andreyev hints that the seats could provide a 4DX-like experience, where the seats move around in conjunction with the action on screen, along with other effects such as air and lights.

A Cinema Cell wouldn't just be for watching movies CINEMA CELL

You’d essentially be renting out an over-specced “home cinema”, to which you would travel with family or to meet friends. Access to the cells would be via a smartphone and would offer “anti-COVID bacterial lamps” and a “photocatalytic air purification system,” along with a fire extinguisher and security cameras. It’s a dream destination for the ultra-paranoid cinemagoer, whether the threat is a pandemic or a zombie apocalypse. The pods could be located in a mall/shopping center and could be either singular or connected in a whole series. I imagine there could be a particular movie on show at a dedicated time, or each cell could show anything it wanted (the 2011 thriller Contagion, for example).

Naturally, it’s not just aimed at movies, but also concerts, sports viewing, gaming, karaoke or even just group watching of your favourite soap opera – though that would be a tragic waste of a giant screen.

The concept has a futuristic, Blade Runner feel to it and if the pandemic remains an issue, or crops up again in the future Cinema Cell would make sense.

However, the question has to be asked if this is really cinema and if this the future we want. On the technical side, the absence of 125121 projection is a cinematic no-no for purists and has to as far away from the magic of a 70mm presentation as you can get. It also inherently lacks the collective thrill that a packed cinema can bring – the open pods of Oma Cinema conceptually provide a

better balance between the private and the collective experience. I’d posit that the name needs work too; it hints at a cinematic prison rather than the escape that going to the movies should provide.

For the paranoid though, or the potentially at-risk viewer, Cinema Cell is a potential way forward. Au cœur d’une vive polémique ces derniers mois quant à leur représentativité, les Golden Globes sont plus que jamais menacés de disparition. Pour survivre, la célèbre cérémonie américaine de remises de récompenses du cinéma et de la télévision a annoncé, mercredi 30 juin, qu’elle allait modifier ses règles pour autoriser les films en langue étrangère à concourir dans les catégories généralistes et des films d’animation. « Alors que nous passions en revue nos règles cette année » pour tenir compte des critiques de l’industrie du divertissement, « nous avons décidé d’adopter de nouvelles approches pour les cérémonies à venir et de nous assurer que ces films bénéficient de l’attention qu’ils méritent », a déclaré le président de la HFPA, Ali Sar, dans un communiqué adressé à l’Agence France‐Presse (AFP). « La langue ne sera plus une barrière pour être reconnu comme le meilleur. » Des critiques sur sa représentativité avaient poussé le diffuseur NBC à annuler la cérémonie prévue l’an prochain, pour laisser le temps aux Golden Globes d’améliorer sa diversité ethnique et culturelle ainsi que sa transparence. Le mois dernier, l’organisation a adopté une série de réformes pour améliorer sa représentativité et tenter d’apaiser les critiques mais ces assurances n’ont pas convaincu l’industrie du divertissement et les reproches ont continué à pleuvoir. Des stars comme Scarlett Johansson ou Tom Cruise ont jugé ces réformes bien trop lentes et vagues tandis que deux membres de la HFPA ont démissionné de ce groupe qu’ils ont qualifié de « toxique ». “The HFPA has chosen over the years to be so restrictive and function more as a cartel rather than a press organization,” Berlin said. “We knew of dozens of important foreign entertainment reporters and journalists who were really happy to have the opportunity to join the Critics Choice Association.”

Those members include several people who have been turned down for HFPA membership in the past, notably Samantha Prince-Ofole and Kjersti Flaa. Other members of the international branch include Claude Budin- Juteau and Ron Jacobsohn, Hyunjin Ahn, Didier Allouch, Nelson Aspen, Silke Burmeister, Yong Chavez, Michael Conte, Robert Croci, Jean-Philippe Darquenne, Gui de Mulder, Frank Fastner, Rosa Gamazo, Emmanuel Itier, Rachel Kasuch, Elaine Lipworth, Maggie Ma, Silvia Maestrutti, Sarah Gerlach Madsen, Gill Pringle, Jeanne Prisyazhnaya, Franck Ragaine, Romain Raynaldy, Wakako Rolinger, Rodrigo Salem, Yuki Saruwatari, Virag Vida, Wladimir Weltman and Nurgul Zhunussova.

As for former HFPA members who are looking to join the CCA, Berlin said he and his team are looking at ways to distinguish which of those members are redeemable and open up a pathway to the membership.

“Although there may be some bad apples, there are obviously dozens of really good journalists who maybe are guilty of turning a blind eye to some of the things that the organization did, but have credibility as Hollywood Foreign Press people and serve their audiences,” he said.

Berlin said his association has almost 500 members that are continually vetted by a full-time membership director. 125121 “We would be really careful about allowing former HFPA members in, but there are a lot of legitimate journalists out there who are really hurting now with their access to be cut off, and we’d like to be a port in the storm for the good ones,” Berlin said.

Berlin said his team was aware that some important categories weren’t given justice during the three-hour Critics Choice awards show. This is why the organization introduced the Critics Choice Documentary Awards in 2016, which honors the documentary filmmaking and non-fiction television. Three years later, the Real Awards were established to give homage to the reality television sector of the entertainment business.

“For several years now, we’ve been aware of the fact that foreign language films are really important, and we really don’t do them justice by just having this one category that sometimes doesn’t even get presented on the main show,” Berlin said. “We thought that this was another thing where we should give it its own show.”

“We’re going to convene them, and then decide the appropriate categories, the best structure and timing,” he said. “There’s a lot of questions to be answered about the structure of the World Movie Awards, but we do like the idea of associating with other critics groups in foreign territories to help in this process and really make it a global event in a time when the world is flattened and the business truly is global.”

After speaking with companies like Netflix and Amazon, Berlin said he believes the organization is well positioned to serve its overall mission to help people find good content and help people who make the good content find their audiences.

“As you get these multinational streaming companies that are delivering content in so many languages around the world at the same time, we’d like to beef up the appreciation of the non-English language films,” Berlin said.

After the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was boycotted for its questionable financial practices and failure to recruit a single Black member, NBC made the decision to not host the Golden Globes in 2022.

Moving forward, regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, both non-English language motion pictures and animated motion pictures will now be eligible for the Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy awards, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements (i.e. release in the Los Angeles area during the B relevant eligibility period). a "As an organization composed of journalists from all backgrounds, the HFPA created the Best Foreign Language category to ensure films with subtitles were getting just as e much recognition as English-speaking films in the US market," said Ali Sar, President of the HFPA. "As we reexamined our guidelines this year and listened to the industry, we decided to adopt new approaches for future shows ensuring these films receive the attention they deserve. Language will no longer be a barrier to recognition as the best." A summary of the eligibility changes follows below:

Allowing non-English language motion pictures to be eligible for the Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy awards if they meet the eligibility requirements for those awards (i.e. release in the Los Angeles area during the relevant eligibility period). Allowing animated motion pictures to be eligible for the Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy awards if they meet the eligibility requirements for those awards (i.e. release in the Los Angeles area during the relevant qualifying period). Renaming "Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language" award to "Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language." Productions of stage plays, operas, concerts, and other live events recorded on a theatrical stage or other similar venue (i.e. not adapted for production as a motion picture or television program) are now considered documentaries and are not eligible. Refining the definition of foreign television programs (programs produced principally outside the United States) which are eligible only if they are a co-production (both financially and creatively) with a United States partner and defined a "United States partner." Requiring that all eligible episodes of television series must be a minimum of twenty (20) program minutes. Updating the Golden Globe ballot certifications each member makes to comply with HFPA's current conflicts disclosure requirements.

Box O ice: ‘F9’ Nabs $6.5M Tuesday For $83M Cume

F9 topped the domestic box office on Tuesday, earning $6.51 million on Tuesday. That’s a 1% drop from its $6.59 million Monday gross, which was itself a 63% drop from the film’s $17.835 million Sunday earnings. Honestly, I’m slightly surprised that the Vin Diesel vs. John Cena film didn’t take a jump on Tuesday. In the “before times,” I often talked about “cheap ticket Tuesday,” whereby films would take an expected Sunday-to-Monday plunge (as kids went back to school and/or adults went back to work) and then jump a bit on Tuesday due to theaters and theater chains offering discounts and bargains on this second weekday of the week. 125121

That didn’t happen here. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw jumped 45% on its first Tuesday ($8.5 million) for a $74 million five-day gross. On this same day in June 2018, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom jumped 24% ($18.4 million) for an $181 million five-day gross. That being said, Fate of the Furious opened with $99 million in April of 2017 and then earned $8.5 million (-60% on the day after Easter) and $8.15 million (-4%) as most kids in public school were on Spring Break. That’s normal for an Easter biggie like, for example, Godzilla Vs. Kong, Batman v Superman, Furious 7, etc.). It’s less normal for a middle-of-June blockbuster.

Toy Story 4 jumped 45% on its fifth day in late-June 2019. World War Z opened with $66 million on this frame in 2013 and then dropped 58% on Monday and rose “just” 4% on Tuesday. Fate of the Furious and Furious 7 pulled 2.28x and 2.4x multipliers, so nobody should be expecting F9 to be terribly leggy. Moreover, this could merely run counter to what we saw with A Quiet Place part II, which had scorching weekday holds and grosses only to take a “normal” 59% second-weekend drop. For the record, a 60% drop would give F9 a $28 million second-weekend gross and an over/under $115 million ten-day cume.

Oh, and no matter how well F9 holds this weekend, Universal is going to almost certainly dominate the top three box office spots over the Fourth of July weekend. They’ve got The Forever Purge opened “in theaters only” on Friday alongside the theatrical and Peacock release of The Boss Baby: Family Business. We can only pray that at least one theater plays the wrong film for the wrong crowds, or at least accidentally plays the trailer for Halloween Kills before The Boss Baby 2. I ask for so little in these challenging times. Barring a fluke, this will mark the first time any studio has hoarded the top three spots since February 2005.

If you may recall, that was the opening weekend of Sony’s Hitch, which saw the Will Smith romantic comedy nabbing a $43.5 million debut (still a record launch for a straight-up rom-com) followed by weekend two of the original horror flick Boogeyman and weekend three of Ice Cube’s family comedy Are We There Yet? Quality notwithstanding, it’s a little sad that back in 2005 we had three originals, two old-school “star+concept” crowd-pleasers no less, all topping the box office from the same studio. Universal is doing so with three sequels, even if to be fair two of those sequels are for cinema-first franchises. Still, a win is a win is a win.

As for F9, we’ll see how this plays out. The decent (relatively speaking) legs

for A Quiet Place part II, The Croods: A New Age and even Godzilla Vs. Kong 125121 suggests that the whole “on PVOD in 31 days for F9” variable won’t impact the domestic box office all that much. Whether its a genuine preference for theaters or a confusion about what films are available where and when, the

“biggies” haven’t necessarily seen their domestic totals undercut by shattered windows and concurrent release strategies. So, yeah, F9 could absolutely make it to $160 million domestic by the end, while Black Widow might do whatever it was going to do in May of 2020.

The Film Detective's month of Stars Under the Stars will include a different double-feature of science fiction drive-in classics every Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Featured classics will include Killers from Space (1954) starring Peter Graves, as well as the newly restored 4K transfer of Battle of the Worlds (1961) starring Claude Rains, coming in July.

The Film Detective's science fiction celebration comes in anticipation of its 70th anniversary Blu-ray ($24.95) and DVD ($19.95) release of Flight to Mars (1951) on July 20 . The release will include an out-of- this-world 4K transfer sourced from the 35mm Cinecolor separation negatives, beautifully restored by the Paramount Pictures Archive ; special features including two brand new documentaries, Walter 125121 Mirisch: From Bomba to Body Snatchers and Interstellar Travelogues: Cinema's First Space Race, from Ballyhoo Motion Pictures ; audio commentary with author/film historian Justin

Katia Adler, diretora do festival, diz que a sua realizaçäo em forma presencial "é uma resisténcia à Covid e também ao governo que temos hoje no Brasil, que näo gosta de cultura e que promove o desmonte do país". Publicidade "No ano passado, o festival, que sempre acontecia em abril, foi cancelado por causa da pandemia. Fizemos assim mesmo o festival online no més de julho, com 55 filmes. Este ano mais uma vez näo foi possível fazer em abril, entäo decidimos esperar pela abertura [das salas de cinema na Franga] numa tentativa de voltar um pouco à vida normal dentro das limitaçòes que a gente conhece e resolvemos fazer novamente em julho. Este ano [o evento] é menor, säo quatro dias em vez dos oitos habituais, mas ele acontece fisicamente", explica a diretora, feliz de voltar às salas de cinema. Ele é um grande conhecedor de cinema, diretor, ativista, já teve muitos filmes selecionados para o festival nestes 23 anos. Ele me ajudou no tema do festival, que é um tema que tem que ser abordado, e obviamente o Lázaro Ramos era evidente para mim. Sao cinco filmes com ele e tem ele como diretor de cinema, com 'Medida provisória"'. Ao final da sessäo de abertura, como de costume, haverá um debate com o diretor, mas desta vez ele será por videoconferéncia. "A gente vai ter o Lázaro Ramos e a Taís Araújo debatendo o filme pelo Zoom logo após a sessäo. Vai ser a primeira vez que a gente vai fazer isso. Eles näo puderam vir por causa da pandemia, pois teriam de fazer uma quarentena aqui em Paris e isso näo seria possível." Presença de diretores Mas o festival deste ano contará também com a presença de alguns diretores. Marcelo Brennatn, diretor do filme "Curral", sobre compra de votos, virá a Paris para conversar com o público após a sessäo de seu filme, às 14h de sábado (3). "A gente tem também o filme 'Nheengatu', do José Barahona, com a presença dele e da produtora Carolina Dias. E teremos também a presença de Pamela Valente, diretora do filme 'Estrelas'. Temos poucos convidados este ano por causa da pandemia e também porque näo temos o patrocínio que teríamos normalmente. E importante dizer que é uma ediçäo realmente de resisténcia", afirma. No s?ábado (3), a diretora conta que está prevista uma ediçäo musical, com filmes sobre músicos - Simonal, Luiz Melodia e Alcione. "Vamos fazer um baile de m?áscaras após as sessöes. Eu acho que também vai ser um momento forte do festival, porque a gente também precisa de alegria", diz.

O filme "Marighella", de Wagner Moura, foi exibido em 2019, no encerramento do festival, "com sala lotada, Humberto Carráo, foi urna sessáo incrível". "Dois anos depois, o filme ainda náo estreou no Brasil e a gente resolveu dar urna outra oportunidade ao público de ver o filme", conta Kátia, que incluiu a produçáo sobre a vida e a morte do gurerrileiro que lutou contra a ditadura militar (1964-1985) no Brasil. O festival se encerra no domingo (4), com a exibiçáo do filme "Alvorada", documentário das cineastas Anna Muylaert e Ló Politi sobre Dima Rousseff durante o seu periodo de isolamento no Palácio da Alvorada, durante o seu processo de impeachment em 2016. "O festival é sempre um panorama do que está se fazendo no Brasil. A gente tem falado de política quase sempre e com certeza a gente ainda vai falar muito sobre isso. Imagine os filmes que váo vir por aí - se deixarem fazer os filmes. A gente fala do momento atual e conta um pouco sempre da história [do Brasil]. Revenues for “The Boss Baby: Family Business” are expected to be somewhat diminished from the original, and that’s not just because attendance hasn’t returned to pre-COVID levels and the Canadian box office remains severely restricted. Also beginning this weekend, “The Boss Baby: Family Business” will be streaming on the newly launched NBCUniversal online platform Peacock. It’s impossible to know the degree to which the film’s hybrid release will impact opening weekend ticket sales. However, it cost $82 million to produce (the first film was budgeted at $125 million) so it doesn’t need to reach the same box office heights as the original to turn a profit. The 2017 film “The Boss Baby” generated a huge $50 million in its opening weekend and went on to gross $175 million in the U.S. and $527 million globally. In the follow-up film, Alec Baldwin is returning to voice the suit-clad toddler with an inspiring can-do attitude, while James Marsden, Amy Sedaris and Jeff Goldblum round out the voice cast.

For “The Forever Purge,” an opening weekend around $10 million would be

Rounding out the weekend is A24’s “Zola,” a social-media-infused comedy from the studio that backed favorites like “Lady Bird,” “Uncut Gems” and “Minari.” Playing in 1,400 North American theaters, “Zola” is projected to bring in $2 million to $4 million in its opening weekend. Janicza Bravo directed the $5 million-budgeted film and co-wrote the script with the Tony-nominated playwright Jeremy O. Harris (“Slave Play”).

Dubbed by Rolling Stone as “The Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted,” the film — said to be the first that’s been inspired by a viral Twitter thread — stars Taylour Paige and Riley Keough as fast friends who embark on a road trip to Florida strip clubs that almost immediately turns precarious. “Zola” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2020 to rave reviews.

In limited release, Searchlight is premiering “Summer of Soul (… Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),” a music documentary from Questlove of the Roots. The film, taking a look back at the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, is landing in 700 theaters, as well as on Hulu.
