Third-Country Tourists on the Ferries Linking Germany with Lithuania Eleri Jones, Ramunas Povilanskas, Ausrine Armaitiene’ Gediminas Valtas & Egidijus Jurkus Recreation and Tourism Department, Klaipeda University, Lithuania, and Cardiff School of Management, Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK Abstract This paper examines third-country passengers’ travel itineraries on the DFDS Seaways ferry route linking Kiel, Germany with Klaipeda, Lithuania using a mixed-methods approach comprising qualitative and quantitative methods, including geographical information system spatial-cluster analysis. Survey results reveal the predominant third- country passenger groups (i.e. passengers from countries other than Germany and Lithuania) on ferries sailing from Kiel to Klaipeda and back were Latvian (28%), Dutch (20%), British (14%) and Danish (12%) nationals; 86% of Latvian passengers used the ferry to travel between home in Latvia and work in Western Europe. Western European passengers comprised a diverse segment of motorized tourists using the ferry in summer to reach the Baltic States faster than by land. The paper highlights the role of the Kiel– Klaipeda ferry route within the Baltic Sea motorized tourism circuit linking the Baltic and Nordic countries with Western Europe. Key Words: Baltic Sea, ferry lines, motorized tourism circuit, third-country tourists, tourismscape, triangulation Introduction Ferry tourism (Duval, 2007; Gibbons, 1996) is a relatively obscure phenomenon with limited literature available in comparison with other industry sectors, such as leisure, tourism and transportation (e.g. motorized and cruise tourism, shipping). While analysing power relationships between hosts and guests aboard an English Channel ferry, Gibbons (1996, p. 7) noted that ferry tourism: “despite its prominent place within the tourism industry, has been much neglected in the literature .. -

WELSH STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2011 No. 683 (W.101) LOCAL GOVERNMENT, WALES The Pembrokeshire (Communities) Order 2011 Made - - - - 7 March 2011 Coming into force in accordance with article 1(2) and (3) The Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales has, in accordance with sections 54(1) and 58(1) of the Local GovernmentAct 1972(1), submitted to the Welsh Ministers a report dated April 2010 on its review of, and proposals for, communities within the County of Pembrokeshire. The Welsh Ministers have decided to give effect to those proposals with modifications. More than six weeks have elapsed since those proposals were submitted to the Welsh Ministers. The Welsh Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 58(2) and 67(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 and now vested in them(2). Title and commencement 1.—(1) The title of this Order is The Pembrokeshire (Communities) Order 2011. (2) Articles 4, 5 and 6 of this Order come into force— (a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors, on 15 October 2011; (b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2012. (3) For all other purposes, this Order comes into force on 1 April 2011, which is the appointed day for the purposes of the Regulations. Interpretation 2. We do this by looking ahead to gauge the effects of climate change and the likely future demands of our domestic and business customers alike, whilst balancing these against the water available for supply, even in the driest years. In recognition of how important this is for our customers, we publish a Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) which describes how we will manage and develop our available water resources every 5 years. This document is Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s draft Water Resource Management Plan covering the period 2015 to 2040. It describes how we intend to maintain water supplies for all of our 1.3 million domestic and 110,000 business customers in Wales and those adjoining parts of England. We want our customers to receive a safe and reliable service which meets all their expectations, at a price they can afford. It is therefore important to us that our stakeholders and customers are involved in the key decisions affecting how we should achieve that goal. We want your views on whether our Plan reflects the appropriate balance between the financial, social and environmental costs of the options open to us in maintaining water supplies into the future. -

Report No. 12/17 National Park Authority REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF DELIVERY AND DISCOVERY SUBJECT: ST DAVIDS CITY OF CULTURE 2021 Purpose of report To highlight work undertaken to date by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to support the St Davids City of Culture 2021 bid and to seek Member approval for further involvement and investment going forward. Background The UK City of Culture programme was born from the success of Liverpool as the European Capital of Culture in 2008. It is a UK Government scheme administered by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Derry-Londonderry was the first UK City of Culture in 2013 and Hull is the current UK City of Culture 2017. The aim of the programme is to encourage the use of culture and creativity as a catalyst for economic and social regeneration, to promote the development of new partnerships, and to encourage ambition, innovation and inspiration in cultural and creative activity. It is intended to make a step change in the regeneration of an area and to create a lasting legacy. It is also an opportunity to showcase local culture to the world as the award brings with it significant media coverage on the national and international stage. The successful UK City of Culture will deliver a high-quality cultural programme over a full year, building and expanding on local strengths and assets, and reaching a wide variety of audiences. The programme will leave a lasting legacy both in terms of social regeneration and economic impact. It is expected to contribute to economic growth, regeneration, community cohesion and health and well-being. -
