Thanks also to the Australian Capital Territory Schools Authority and the Education Departments of South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia for assistance and co-operation in the trial testing of items. Staff and students in over 100 independent, Catholic and state secondary schools took part in the trial testing and written evaluation of items. Without their contribution, the project could not have succeeded. The staff of ACER also contributed to the development of the item bank. The research staff, especially Messrs Graham Ward and Stephen Farish, gave advice and technical assistance. Mrs Judith Clark gave up much of her free time to help meet word processing deadlines and Mrs Gloria Locock carried out typesetting. Louise Coutts provided the excellent artwork for the diagrams. Jeff Williams edited the final manuscript. The editors especially acknowledge the support given by their wives and families through the many late nights, meetings, weekends and deadlines. 8 vi Items
