UNITY Lutheran Church ~ Lenten Events 2017

THIS YEAR’S THEME: “REFORMED AND ALWAYS REFORMING” Reform has always been a part of Christian life. The movement that burst forth in 1517 is referred to as THE because of its scope and impact, not just in the church but society. To mark the 500th anniversary of this movement, UNITY will devote its Lenten Wednesday attention to some of the key figures of that time. You’ll get to meet some of the main players like Luther and Henry VIII, as well as a few whose names may not immediately roll off your tongue…how about Ulrich Zwingli? We’ll even connect each of the characters to ’s “small catechism,” a simple guide designed for parents to use when teaching the faith to their children. None of this is really about history. Reform is always alive and needed in Christ’s church. Seeing the path of the past lights our way into the future. Sundays will be fulfilling as well. Be a part of your faith community this Lent. Grow in your own faith and encourage others in theirs!

LENT SMALL GROUP SERIES: WALKING WITH JESUS

RELAX AND RENEW WITH YOGA ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Wednesdays ~ March 8, 15, 22, 29 & April 5 ~ 5:15-6:00 pm ~ Lower Level Relax and renew with 45 minutes of Hatha Yoga led by Melanie Rooney before heading to Supper and Worship. We will meet in the Lower Level of COL at 5:15 pm. Hatha Yoga is a physical and mental form that emphasizes postures, concentration and relaxation. It focuses on every part of the body, such as stretching and toning muscles and joints. You will learn ways to enhance balance, mitigate stress, regain energy and improve your outlook. No yoga experience is necessary, all ages are welcome, and it’s free! Bring a yoga mat or blanket and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

LENTEN OFFERINGS TO HELP FOOD PANTRY PURCHASE VAN This year’s Lenten Offerings will go toward purchasing a new van for the Waukesha Food Pantry. They currently need an additional $15,000 to replace their old and heavily used vans – and we hope to raise that for them over the rest of this year. With that in mind, our goal is to raise $6,000 from this year’s Lenten Offerings. (We also hope to raise $4,000 from Thanksgiving offerings, with the additional $5,000 coming from discretionary benevolence.) For now, if we could raise $6,000 with our Lenten Offerings, we’d be “on the road” to helping the Food Pantry purchase a much-needed van! Lent offerings include Lent envelopes at all weekend and weekday services and loose cash on Wednesdays.
