Atlanta Braves Clippings Thursday, September 10, 2020 Braves.com Braves set NL standard with 29-run outburst Atlanta breaks Modern Era record in National League (since 1900) By Mark Bowman ATLANTA -- Adam Duvall produced his second three-homer game within an eight-day span to help the Braves roll to a record-setting 29-9 win over the Marlins on Wednesday night at Truist Park. Duvall became the first player to record two three-homer games while wearing a Braves uniform, and his efforts helped Atlanta set a National League record for runs in a game in the modern era (since 1900). “That was pretty amazing to be a part of,” Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said. “I’ve never seen an offense click like that.” The Braves fell just one run short of tying the modern record for runs scored in a game, set when the Rangers defeated the Orioles, 30-3, in the first game of a doubleheader on Aug. 22, 2007, at Camden Yards. Dating back to 1900, no NL club had scored more than 28 runs in a game. The Braves’ franchise record was 23, a mark tallied during the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Sept. 2, 1957. Ronald Acuña Jr. contributed to his three-hit night with a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth. But it was his bases-loaded double in the sixth inning that gave the Braves a new franchise record for runs in a single game, opening a 25-8 lead. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta became the first MLB team to score at least 22 runs through the first five innings since the Blue Jays (24 runs) in a win over the Orioles on June 26, 1978.

The Boston Red Sox Monday, November 5, 2018 * The Boston Globe Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Ian Kinsler win Gold Glove awards Peter Abraham Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t need a Gold Glove to be recognized as one of the best center fielders in the major leagues. Red Sox fans have known that for several years. But Bradley certainly did deserve one and it finally came his away on Sunday night. Bradley, right fielder Mookie Betts, and second baseman Ian Kinsler were Gold Glove winners. The Red Sox and Atlanta Braves each had three. A finalist in 2014 and ’16, Bradley was selected ahead of Mike Trout (Angels) and Adam Engel (White Sox) in voting done by managers and coaches. Bradley was second among MLB center fielders with an 8.7 ultimate zone rating and tied for the American League lead with eight assists. There’s no statistic for improbable acrobatic catches but Bradley had a series of those. Betts won for the third consecutive year, the first Red Sox player to do that since Dwight Evans won five in a row from 1981-85. Betts is now one of seven Red Sox players to win three or more Gold Gloves. Betts led all right fielders with 20 defensive runs saved. He has 83 DRS the last three seasons. Kinsler, 36, is now a two-time winner. He also won with the Tigers in 2016. In 128 games for the Angels and Red Sox, Kinsler had 10 DRS, the most in the AL at second base. Andrew Benintendi (left field) and Mitch Moreland (first base) were finalists.

In total, the new player development system includes 179 teams across 17 leagues in 43 states and four provinces. Including the AZL and GCL, there are 209 teams across 19 leagues in 44 states and four provinces. That includes the 150 teams in the PDL and AZL/GCL along with the four partner leagues: the American Association, Atlantic League, Frontier League and Pioneer League. The long-time Triple-A structure of the International and Pacific Coast Leagues have been replaced by Triple-A East and Triple-A West. Triple-A East consists on 20 teams; all 14 from the International League, plus teams moving from the Pacific Coast League, the Southern League and the independent Atlantic League. Triple-A West is comprised of nine Pacific Coast League teams and one addition from the Atlantic League. Atlanta Braves Clippings Wednesday, June 3, 2015 Braves.com Braves rally, only to fall to D-backs on late HR By Barry M. Bloom and Jake Rill / MLB.com | 2:10 AM ET PHOENIX -- A.J. Pollock hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the D-backs to a 7-6 win over the Braves on Tuesday night at Chase Field. Pollock's opposite-field blast came on a 1-0 pitch from Braves reliever Brandon Cunniff, landing in the swimming pool in right-center. It was the sixth homer of the year for the center fielder, who has hit safely in 12 of 14 games and batted .397 during that stretch. "I just got a pitch middle-away, I was trying to put it in the gap and watch Ender [Inciarte] run and hopefully get that run in," Pollock said. "Fortunate enough, it went over the fence." Braves starter Shelby Miller had his shortest outing of the year, lasting just 4 1/3 innings and giving up a season-high four runs on six hits and a season-high six walks. D-backs starter Josh Collmenter took his third straight no-decision, giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings. "I just didn't get in the groove type thing, but those kinds of days happen," Miller said. "I mean, you're human. You look at Felix Hernandez's start [on Monday night in a Mariners' 7-1 loss to the Yankees] and other guys who are doing well have poor starts.

First baseman Joey Votto, left fielder Adam Duvall, center fielder Billy Hamilton and catcher Tucker Barnhart were named Rawlings NL Gold Glove Award finalists. Each player is one of three nominees at his respective position for the prestigious award that recognizes the best defensive player at each position for each league. The four nominations are an NL high for any club. The winners will be unveiled on Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. "I think we've got legitimate candidates here to win the award," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "The four guys who have been acknowledged in the final vote is really good, and I'm excited. But I would really like to see us get acknowledged beyond getting into the finalists and actually win some awards." This is the fourth straight year Hamilton has been nominated, though he has yet to win. In 2017, Hamilton converted three five-star catches, rated by Statcast™ as the most elite such outfield plays, those with a catch probability of 25 percent or less.

MLB.COM Phillips, Frazier, Hamilton are Gold Glove finalists By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com / [email protected] / @m_sheldon CINCINNATI -- Second baseman Brandon Phillips, third baseman Todd Frazier and center fielder Billy Hamilton were the three Reds named as finalists on Thursday for Rawlings National League Gold Glove Awards. Phillips is seeking his fifth Gold Glove Award after he was a winner previously in 2008, '10, '11 and '13. Frazier and Hamilton are after their first Gold Gloves. The winners will be announced at Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The other finalists at second base this year are Dee Gordon from the Marlins and DJ LeMahieu of the Rockies. LeMahieu won the award in 2014, when Phillips was also a finalist. Hamilton was a finalist in 2014. This year, he's up against the Pirates' Andrew McCutchen and A.J. Pollock of the D-backs. Frazier, a first-time finalist, is joined by two-time winner Nolan Arenado of the Rockies and Matt Duffy of the Giants. Since 1957, Major League managers and coaches have been the sole voters for the awards to the best defensive players in baseball. Starting in 2013, however, voting results were calculated along sabermetric data to determine winners of the Gold Glove Awards. A committee of experts in baseball analytics and defensive measurement devised the SABR Defensive Index (SDI), which draws on and aggregates two types of existing defensive metrics: those derived from batted ball, location-based data, and those collected by from play-by-play accounts.
