    Atlanta Braves Clippings Thursday, September 10, 2020 Braves.com Braves set NL standard with 29-run outburst Atlanta breaks Modern Era record in National League (since 1900) By Mark Bowman ATLANTA -- Adam Duvall produced his second three-homer game within an eight-day span to help the Braves roll to a record-setting 29-9 win over the Marlins on Wednesday night at Truist Park. Duvall became the first player to record two three-homer games while wearing a Braves uniform, and his efforts helped Atlanta set a National League record for runs in a game in the modern era (since 1900). “That was pretty amazing to be a part of,” Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said. “I’ve never seen an offense click like that.” The Braves fell just one run short of tying the modern record for runs scored in a game, set when the Rangers defeated the Orioles, 30-3, in the first game of a doubleheader on Aug. 22, 2007, at Camden Yards. Dating back to 1900, no NL club had scored more than 28 runs in a game. The Braves’ franchise record was 23, a mark tallied during the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Sept. 2, 1957. Ronald Acuña Jr. contributed to his three-hit night with a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth. But it was his bases-loaded double in the sixth inning that gave the Braves a new franchise record for runs in a single game, opening a 25-8 lead. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta became the first MLB team to score at least 22 runs through the first five innings since the Blue Jays (24 runs) in a win over the Orioles on June 26, 1978.

The Goldeyes served as the home team. John Nester hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second that give Winnipeg a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish. The RedHawks scratched out an unearned run in the top of the fifth before the Goldeyes plated three unearned runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Eric Wood tacked on a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Goldeyes’ starter Kevin Hilton allowed one unearned run on just two hits in 5.0 innings in his first start of the year. Evan Grills (1.0) and Nate Antone (2.0) combined for 3.0 shutout relief innings to close out the game. George finished with three hits. ALL-TIME AGAINST THE REDHAWKS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 165-185 all-time against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, including a 76-98 record at Newman Outdoor Field. The league was originally scheduled to begin May 19 th . Six teams are scheduled to play 60 regular season games, including the Goldeyes, Chicago Dogs, Fargo- Moorhead RedHawks, Milwaukee Milkmen, St. Paul Saints, and Sioux Falls Canaries. Winnipeg and St. Paul will play their home games at Newman Outdoor Field (Fargo-Moorhead) and Sioux Falls Stadium (Sioux Falls) respectively. The teams with the best two winning percentages at the conclusion of the regular season will meet in the 2020 American Association Championship Series. ALL-TIME AGAINST THE REDHAWKS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 162-184 all-time against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, including a 73-97 record at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks are celebrating their 25 th season, and have been one of independent baseball’s elite franchises since beginning play in 1996. The RedHawks won a Northern League record five championships (1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2010) before joining the American Association in 2011 along with the Goldeyes, Gary SouthShore RailCats, and Kansas City T-Bones. Fargo-Moorhead won the American Association North Division in 2012 and 2013, and became the first team in league history to win 60-plus games in back-to-back seasons (65 wins in 2012, 62 wins in 2013).
