Millfield Science and Performing Arts College Introducing our School Millfield Science and Performing Arts College is a small, family school in the heart of Thornton. We currently have just over 875 students on roll and we are one of the smallest secondary schools in the area. Our admission number for September 2021 will continue to be 175; this is due to being vastly oversubscribed and listening to the needs of our community.

In addition, we have also taken a team of Millfield Science leaders into primary schools to lead a project on investigating edible water as a means of cutting down on disposable plastic bottle usage in the future, and a project on analysing fossil ‘poo’ to determine the diet of past civilisations.

Duke of Edinburgh Award At Millfield, we are entering the sixth year of the bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and the numbers keep increasing! This takes place currently in Year 10, however, I am looking at expanding and training more staff to lead so we can offer Bronze in Year 9 and the Silver Award in Year 10. The students take part in volunteering, physical and skilled activities in their own time and then in April I lead them on the Expedition Phase of the award.

This comprises of two weekends of camping, cooking, field craft, hiking, navigational and leadership skill building which is highly sought after It was a joy and privilege to visit Millfield in today’s modern world of employment.
