THE LAW & YOUR VOTE

You do NOT lose your right to vote if you have a traffic cket or outstanding civil fine, or if you are convicted of a misdemeanor. If you are convicted of a felony, you temporarily lose your cizenship rights, including your right to vote. But you automacally get your right to vote back in North Carolina aer you finish your sentence, including probaon or parole. It doesn’t maer where the felony convicon occurred, in this state or elsewhere. No court document is needed to “restore” your right to vote. Just finish your sentence and register like any other cizen. Failure to pay restuon does not block your right to vote, unless you are sll on probaon. If you know someone who has completed a felony sentence, encourage them to register and vote!
