Battle, a 1934 BSC graduate, BSC Sports Hall of Fame member, and four-term U.S. representative from Alabama; and Mary Virginia Battle Mudd of Lutherville, Md., who attended Birmingham-Southern in 1943-44. A 1930 graduate of Birmingham- Southern, William Raines Battle Jr. was a letterwinner in football, basketball, and baseball, and is a member of the BSC Sports Hall of Fame.
