A Change Is Going To Come In what can only be described as an historic moment at Prairie View A&M Uni- versity (PVAMU), the $60 million dollar Football Stadium & Athletic Field House is currently under construction. The 2-year project, which began in December, included the demolition of the existing Blackshear Field and the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility in the same location. The complex will feature a 15,000-seat stadium, with the capability of expansion to 30,000-seats. “Indeed this is truly a momentous occasion for the entire Prairie View A&M University community,” said Dr. George C. Wright, President, Prairie View A&M University. “Alumni, students, faculty and staff wanted a state of the art, first class facility that was worthy of our beloved Panthers and we all worked together make the dream come to frui- tion.” Prairie View A&M will play its home games at nearby Waller ISD Stadium for the 2015 season. 2015 SEASON OUTLOOK n recent history, the Prairie View A&M football team probably has never experienced an offseason full of opti- Imism coupled with bouts of uncertainty. In terms of optimism, Prairie View A&M ushers in a new era with the arrival of new head coach Willie Simmons, formerly of Alcorn State University. In just three seasons at Alcorn State, Simmons had a major impact on the turn- around at ASU as the Braves recently won the 2014 SWAC and SBN Black College National Championships. With Simmons on staff, Alcorn State fielded one of the most po- tent offenses in the country as they led the SWAC in sev- en offensive categories while also finishing second in the nation amongst Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams in scoring offense with 44 points per game during the 2014 season. Alcorn State quarterback John Gibbs, Jr. flourished in Simmons’ offense as he was named SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year while breaking several long-standing records held by ASU legend and former NFL standout Steve “Air” McNair. In addition to Gibbs’ ac- colades, ASU had four players who rushed for at least 691 yards and a balanced wide receiving corps which featured has a similar group of playmakers returning which should four players catching 22-plus receptions. ease the transition and learning curve entering the season.
