FOREWORD Tms account of the IRBYS of Lincolnshire and IREBYS of Cumberland, which I have been engaged on for some years, does not pretend to be of any general interest, and is only compiled so that members of the family may have some sort of introduction to their forbears. My grateful thanks are due to the Head of the family, the sixth Baron Boston (S. 1) for the kindly interest he has taken in this production, to my brother Lewis Michael Aubert (R. 2 1 ), of Messrs. Sotheby & Co., who has pro vided me with a good deal of information about members of the family to be found in various books that have come under his survey, and to Cecil Eustace (T. 2) for a good deal of Cumberland research. I am also indebted to Miss M. K. Dale for research in the Public Record Office, more particularly in the . Cumberland portion of the book, and to "Tasmary" (T. 16), for her kind assistance in typing out most of the manuscript for me when on a visit to this country in 1936. There may be, and probably are, branches of the family in this country and possibly in Ireland, of which I have no record, as it will be seen from the Pedigree Chart 1 that in the earlier parts of the Pedigree there are a good many members of the family about whom I have been able to discover very little information, and they may of course have descendants still flourishing in some district.

ISSN 1567-214x. Keywords: Documents, Lebanon, modern history, contemporary history. Abstract: Historical documents occupy a pivotal and distinct space on which researchers, historians and who is involved in the field of historical documentation and writing, especially those who specialize in modern and contemporary Lebanese history rely, as they are familiar with relevant and significant documents of specific time periods.Furthermore, documents of all kinds are among the most focal sources of knowledge and the evidence for proving or denying a historical event. In addition, they play a prominent role with the aim of linking the past with the future. Therefore, modern and contemporary Lebanese history is rich in the availability of unpublished and even published documents that presented its historical events in a chronological and in-depth manner. Introduction: It is beyond dispute that historical documents are of great importance, whether political, administrative or legal, which makes them a rich sourceofsolid studies and the basis for scientific research in the field of writing and documenting modern and contemporary Lebanese history in particular. Thus, many countries of the world in the modern era have taken on the provision of centers for the preservation, tabulation, and indexing of documents along with the preparation of paper indexes for the classification of documents, as well as the introduction of technology in the field of documents preservation and archiving so as to facilitate the job of researchers and provide what they need.

The idea of the propriety of such a publication was first suggested to the writer in con- sequence of a conversation with a person who disbe- lieved the truth of Christianity, but whose mind seemed to be considerably affected, even by a slight allusion to the argument from Prophecy. Having endeavoured in vain to obtain, for his perusal, any concise treatise on the Prophecies, considered ex- clusively as a matter of evidence—and having failed in soliciting others to undertake the work, who were far better qualified for the execution of it —the writer was induced to make the attempt, and to endeavour to bring the subject into view.

  • Multiculturalism in Islamic Civilization During the Classic Period
ADDIN, Volume 11, Number 1, February 2017 MULTICULTURALISM IN ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION DURING THE CLASSIC PERIOD Dudung Abdurahman UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Indonesia [email protected] Abstract The main objectives of this study are to map and analyze the multiculturalism pattern in Muslim civilization history during the period. Analyses are developed with historical and socio-cultural perspectives. Several patterns of multiculturalism in Islamic civilization are found: Firstly, during the Prophet and al-Khulafa ar-Rasyidun era, Islam–as a doctrine and religion system–had accomodative patterns to the cultural form in al-‘as}a>biyyah al-qabaliyyah tradition and began to perform as Arabic culture-based civilization. Secondly, during the Daulah Umayyah era, disregarding that the civilization was developed using Arabic politics, the policies regarding Islamic expansion encouraged acculturation of Arabic-Muslim and non-Arabic or non- Muslim communities, leading to the multiculturalism in Islam at that time. Finally, during the Daulah Abbasiyah era, multiculturalism became more obvious as a pattern of Islamic civilization, indicated by the roles of non-Arabic cultures in Islamic civilization development. Keywords: Islam, Multi-Cultural Community, Muslim Civilization.
