Nominated Candidates The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is the world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature. Candidates are nominated by expert organisations world-wide. A common feature of the nomination bodies is that they have a good overview and knowledge of children’s and young adult literature in their countries or language areas. This makes the annual list of nominees a good starting-point for an overview of contemporary international children’s and young adult literature.

A total of 168 candidates have been nominated for the 2010 award. Among the nominees are authors, illustrators, promoters of reading and oral storytellers, representing more than 60 countries world-wide.

The winner or winners of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced by the expert jury at the birthplace of Astrid Lindgren in Vimmerby, Sweden, on March 24 2010, at 13.00 CET. The announcement will be broadcasted live to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Italy, and online at www.alma.se.
