HEADTEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION Magor Church in Wales Voluntary Aided Primary School PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To lead and manage a happy and effective primary school in accordance with, and subject to, the Trust Deed and the mission and ethos statements of the school. THE POST-HOLDER is responsible to the School’s Governing Body and, through the Chief Officer for Children and Young People, to Monmouthshire County Council for the internal organisation, management and control of the school; is employed by the Governing Body; should carry out professional duties in accordance with, and subject to, the Trust Deed and the mission and ethos statements of Magor Church in Wales V.A. Primary School, Monmouth. must have a firm commitment to high quality educational provision and seek to maximise the achievement of every pupil; should interact on a professional level with colleagues, including Head- teacher colleagues, Officers of Monmouthshire County Council (LA) and Diocese of Monmouth, Officers of the Education Achievement Service for South East Wales (EAS) and seek to establish and maintain productive relationships with them; will be required to supervise all employees of Magor Church in Wales V.A.     Church in Wales Review July 2012 The September 2010 meeting of the Governing Body was notable for the number of contributions from members with a common message: “The Church in Wales cannot go on doing the same things in the same way; some things need to change and we are open to – and indeed encourage – that possibility”. The Standing Committee and Bench of Bishops responded to this call by appointing an external review of the Church, with particular reference to its structures and use of resources, to increase the effectiveness of the Church’s ministry and witness. The Review Group’s members are prominent thinkers with a blend of experience in dealing with matters ecclesiastical and organisational: Lord Harries of Pentregarth, the former Bishop of Oxford; Professor Charles Handy, the eminent writer and adviser on business and organisational theory (and son of a Church of Ireland archdeacon); and Professor Patricia Peattie, former Convenor of the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Standing Committee and the first chairwoman of the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust. The aim was to commission a review that could move quickly to gather and assimilate information about the state of the Church in Wales, then provide independent advice on how the Church might reshape itself to be more effective in the twenty-first century. Given the extent of its members’ other commitments, the Review Group has pursued its task with extraordinary vigour and dedication. The Group determined its own approach and programme. It has visited every diocese in Wales, meeting with the Bishop and Diocesan team in each and holding an open meeting for Church members to express their views.

    The Gatehouse This is the entrance to Abergavenny Castle, it is called the Gatehouse. It is a barbican gatehouse . A barbican was a wall or tower which protected a castle from attack. The Gatehouse today When Abergavenny Castle was first built, over 900 years ago, the gate was just a simple opening in the castle walls. What can you see? Abergavenny Castle Trail The Gatehouse On the first floor above the gate were comfortable rooms for the Constable of the Castle and his family to live in. The Constable was in charge of the Castle when the Lord was away. The room had a fireplace, large windows and access to the walkways along the walls, as well as a winch to lower or raise the drawbridge. You might be able to spot the two holes above the opening where the chains have worn the stone away? TaTaTakeTa ke a close look at the walls either side of the opeopening.ning. Can you spot any holes where the huge metal door hinges might have been? We think that this stone-built Gatehouse was added about 600 years ago. At this time the Welsh, led by Owain Glyn Dŵr (Owen Glendower) were fighting the Normans who were in control of much of Wales. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement.
