LAURA HART – REALTOR® Having been on many sides of the table as Landlord, Tenant, Buyer and Seller, I’ve learned in the last 25 years of my career in Residential and Commercial Real Estate that even if a move is desired, it’s still stressful and anxiety- inducing. If another life milestone is happening at the same time (job transfer, marriage, divorce or birth of a child), planning to buy or sell real estate on top of that current life experience can be a daunting task. I’ve been part of those experiences with clients, friends, and family in the best and worst of situations and have learned that a strong partnership is key. I am here as w a resource for your community s, questions and if you’re interested in residential or commercial real estate, I am here for you!

The Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America continue to serve our communities and have been doing so in the United States for 111 years! Service is a central part of living Scouting BSA’s values. As part of the Scout Oath, Scouts pledge to “Help Other People at All Times.”

“Do a Good Turn Daily” is the Scout Slogan. Scouts in Aquia and Mattaponi Districts, serving Scouts and Scouting Families from Quantico, Stafford, Fredericksburg, Bowling Green, Dahlgren, and Caroline, King Georges and Spotsylvania Counties have done many Good Turns during the past year. Examples of service projects include helping to maintain hiking routes along the Appalachian Trail, conducting multiple No-Contact Food Drives — amassing over 12 TONS of FOOD! for local Food Pantries and Food Banks — participating in ceremonies to retire unserviceable American flags with proper honors and executing many Eagle Scouts’ projects and numerous individual Scouting units’ service projects throughout the year.

Mattaponi and Aquia Districts’ Scouts have been VERY active over the last year. We are almost 2,000 Scouts and over 1,000 volunteer Adult Scouters strong. We have 79 Scouting units, including Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews and Sea Scout Ships. Scouts earned over 1,900 Merit Badges, over 1,200 Scouts earned rank advancements, nearly 150 Cubs earned their Arrow of Light Award and 68 Scouts earned the highly-esteemed Eagle Rank. Scouts learn to love and respect the outdoors, so hiking, camping, backpacking and many high adventure activities are all ways that older Scouts continue to learn and practice basic Scout skills they learned as younger Scouts in Cub Scouting. They carry these into advanced Scouting activities in Scout Troops, Venturing Crews, Explorer Posts and Sea Scout Ships. Skills like proper foot care, how and what to pack properly, knot tying, fire building, safe use of woods tools, campsite preparation, menu planning and cooking for fellow Scouts are just part of the adventure.

Scouts learn to “Be Prepared” (the Scout Motto) to thrive in the great outdoors and, if necessary, to respond to emergency situations with skills learned in Swimming, Lifesaving, First Aid and Emergency Preparedness. Scouts learn to lash things together with ropes and to use science and technology appropriately while forwarding teamwork and leadership throughout their Scouting experiences. Scouts have fun at campfires and week-long summer camps, including archery, fishing, boating and even white water canoeing or rafting — the list of fun stuff Scouts and Scouting Families do just goes on and on! The Founder of Scouting, Robert Baden-Powell said that “Scouting is a Game with a Purpose!”

So, are you ready to begin your family’s Scouting adventures too? Interested in joining in Scouting's fun and games and getting to learn and do things you may not get a chance to do anywhere else? To join BSA, please go to www.beascout.org to find a BSA Scout unit near you. Cub Scouting serves families with children in Kindergarten through 5th grade; Scouts BSA serves families with children ages 11-18. There are also BSA programs for families with older Youths, ages 14 - 20, including becoming Venturers, Explorers or Sea Scouts.

The mission of the BSA is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The Aquia and Mattaponi Districts are part of the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

For more information on Scouting in the Quantico/Stafford/Fredericksburg/Spotsy and eastern counties' areas, including how to donate, join or volunteer, contact Tom Friedel, District Executive, at [email protected] or call Tom at 301-221-4286
