There will be a launch of a new book by Dymphna Headen in Bawnboy Workhouse on Sunday 9 August 2018 at 3pm. The book is about the link between the workhouses in Ireland and the Irish Famine of 1845-1850. 130 workhouses were built before the famine and the people were taxed to pay for them. This is what caused the famine, in Dymphna’s view. The book is called “The Potato was not the Problem”. It is an opportunity to hear about the book in the atmosphere of a workhouse which was in use for seventy years.
