The aim of this study was to report non-native tropical ornamental freshwater fi sh species from the Pınarbaşı Stream connected with hot-water sources in the İnönü Province (Eskişehir, Turkey). The morphological characters and meristic counts indicated that the examined specimens were: Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus (Weber, 1991), Pterygoplichthys pardalis (Castelnau, 1855), and their hybrids. We also present the evidence of their reproduction and establishment. Successful invasion of these species was evident, as their young-of-the-year and juvenile individuals were caught during the samplings from the same water course. Finally, we discuss the management implications of these species. -

www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Species composition and invasion risks of alien ornamental freshwater fshes from pet stores in Klang Valley, Malaysia Abdulwakil Olawale Saba1,2, Ahmad Ismail1, Syaizwan Zahmir Zulkifi1, Muhammad Rasul Abdullah Halim3, Noor Azrizal Abdul Wahid4 & Mohammad Noor Azmai Amal1* The ornamental fsh trade has been considered as one of the most important routes of invasive alien fsh introduction into native freshwater ecosystems. Therefore, the species composition and invasion risks of fsh species from 60 freshwater fsh pet stores in Klang Valley, Malaysia were studied. A checklist of taxa belonging to 18 orders, 53 families, and 251 species of alien fshes was documented. Fish Invasiveness Screening Test (FIST) showed that seven (30.43%), eight (34.78%) and eight (34.78%) species were considered to be high, medium and low invasion risks, respectively. After the calibration of the Fish Invasiveness Screening Kit (FISK) v2 using the Receiver Operating Characteristics, a threshold value of 17 for distinguishing between invasive and non-invasive fshes was identifed. As a result, nine species (39.13%) were of high invasion risk. In this study, we found that non-native fshes dominated (85.66%) the freshwater ornamental trade in Klang Valley, while FISK is a more robust tool in assessing the risk of invasion, and for the most part, its outcome was commensurate with FIST. This study, for the frst time, revealed the number of high-risk ornamental fsh species that give an awareness of possible future invasion if unmonitored in Klang Valley, Malaysia. As a global hobby, fshkeeping is cherished by both young and old people. -

The Pterygoplichthys in the Chumpan likely dispersed from populations from the drainage of nearby coastal rivers where they were already established. These catfish tolerate estuarine conditions and probably dispersed from the Grijalva-Usumacinta basin through the brackish waters of Laguna de Términos and then ultimately entered the Chumpan River system. One juvenile and seven adult Pterygoplichthys were collected in the Chumpan River system in December 2014 from a river lagoon some 15 km upstream from Laguna de Términos. Non-native catfish were not detected in the nearby Candelaria River. Based on their ventral color patterns, the captured adult catfish were identified as a mix of Pterygoplichthys pardalis and hybrid Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus × pardalis. -

Specimens in aquaria may live more than 10 years. The size range for most of the adult species in the Loricariid family is 30–50 cm, but individuals have been observed to reach 70 cm. Pterygoplicthys spp. start reproducing at approximately 25 cm (Mendoza et al, 2009). Habitat Description Pterygoplichthys spp. can be found in a wide variety of habitats, ranging from relatively cool, fast- flowing and oxygen-rich highland streams to slow-flowing, warm lowland rivers and stagnant pools poor in oxygen. They are tropical fish and populations are typically limited only by their lower lethal temperature which has been found to be about 8.8-11°C in some species (Gestring, 2006). They can thrive in a range of acidic to alkaline waters in a range of about (pH 5.5.0 to 8.0) (Mendoza et al., 2009). They are often found in soft waters, but can adapt very quickly to hard waters. -

Stefan Koerber Friesenstr. 11, 45476 Muelheim, Germany, [email protected] Since the beginning of the binominal nomenclature authors dedicate names of new species described by them to persons they want to honour, mostly to the collectors or donators of the specimens the new species is based on, to colleagues, or, in fewer cases, to family members. This paper aims to provide a list of these names used for freshwater fishes from Argentina. All listed species have been reported from localities in Argentina, some regardless the fact that by our actual knowledge their distribution in this country might be doubtful. Years of birth and death could be taken mainly from obituaries, whereas those of living persons or publicly unknown ones are hard to find and missing in some accounts. Although the real existence of some persons from ancient Greek mythology might not be proven they have been included here, while the names of indigenous tribes and spirits are not. Ruedas Portland State University 2017 Abstract The Neotropical catfish Pterygoplichthys pardalis produces a harsh stridulation sound upon manual capture. This stridulation sound is made on the abduction of the pectoral fin spine, and is accomplished by friction of a ridged dorsal condyle against a rough spinal fossa of the cleithrum in the pectoral girdle. The sound produced has an average frequency of 121 Hz, and is used with other anti-predator adaptations such as bony subdermal armor and defensive fin-spreading. -

Degree & PG Abstract College, Jammikunta, A report on the occurrence of Amazon suckermouth armoured catfish Pterygoplichthys pardalis Satavahana University, (Castelnau, 1855) from the native freshwater tanks at Jangaon, Telangana State, India. The sailfin catfish Karimnagar Dt. Telangana belonging to the genus Pterygoplichthys of the Loricariidae family has been introduced to tropical and State, India subtropical freshwater environments. The study was conducted for fish taxonomic identification and behaviour in the laboratory condition. This study was conformed and given information on this invasive Venugopal Sunchu species of P. pardalis was dug out the bottom of the soil. Ten meristic and 43 morphometric District Fisheries Officer, characteristics were reported in this study for identification of species. This species is radiating pattern of Jayasenker Bhupalapalli light lines on the head, leopard body ornamentation on the dorsal side, the ventral sucker mouth is Dt, Telangana State, India triangular, three lips contains 16 + 16+ 32 (two groups) 0.13 mm length of tubular filamented teeth and more number of tubercles are present around the mouth.
