The Charleston Miracle League makes memories by providing a life-changing experience for children and adults with mental and physical challenges through a community-supported baseball league played on a state-of-the-art complex built specifi cally for them.

CofC’s Brandon Murray, Blake Ross, Derrick Smith, Blake Butler, Hayden McCutcheon, Colie Bowers, Jake McBreairty, Jimmy Lindberg and Marlin Morris all visited with players from four teams as they enjoyed a morning of fun baseball and fellowship.

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak with some of these players,” said Lindberg. “I spent most of the morning with William, escorting him around the bases and talking about baseball.”

CofC Baseball has forged a strong relationship with the Charleston Miracle League as some of its participants will be coming out to cheer on the Cougars for the team’s Senior Day on May 17 against William & Mary.

“We value the opportunity to be involved in our community,” said Murray, one of the team’s senior captains. “Seeing the smiles on the players’ faces today was really cool. It was a great experience for our guys.”

Harker, Sizemore To Be Inducted Into Baseball Wall of Fame College of Charleston has announced that Brett Harker and Brandon Sizemore will be inducted into the CofC Baseball Wall of Fame before Charleston’s game with William & Mary on Friday, May 16.

Wearing No. 31, Harker pitched for the College from 2003 to 2005, going down as the best reliever in CofC history. He appeared in 78 games, posting a career record of 14-6 with a 4.08 ERA. His 29 career saves lead the CofC record book and still tie for second all-time in the Southern Conference record book. Drafted in the fi fth round of the 2005 draft by the Phillies, Harker was the 2005 SoCon Pitcher of the Year while earning All-SoCon First Team honors in 2004 and 2005. He ranked fourth in the NCAA in saves in 2004 and 2005 with 13 and 15 saves, respectively. Harker still ranks 10th all-time in winning percentage with a 14-6 record as he helped the Cougars to their fi rst NCAA Regional appearances in 2004 and 2005.

After spending four seasons with the Phillies organization, reaching the AA level, Harker was selected by the Florida Marlins in the MLB Rule 5 Draft. He played in both AA and AAA for the Marlins. In 2010, Harker played for the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League followed by a stint with the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2011. Harker is currently in his fi rst season as an assistant coach at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C.

An infi elder in 2008 and 2009, Sizemore fi nished his Charleston career with a .322 batting average, 156 RBIs and 37 home runs. He was an All-American in both seasons at CofC, selected to the 2008 Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team and the 2009 NCBWA All-America Third Team.

Wearing No. 29, Sizemore was an All-SoCon First Team selection in both seasons and ranked seventh in the nation with 82 RBIs in 2008. Despite only playing two seasons, he still ranks third all-time in the CofC record books in home runs (37) and fi fth all-time in RBIs (156). Sizemore was a key contributor to a 2008 offensive unit that led the country in runs per game (10.6), home runs (130) and slugging percentage (.607).

Sizemore was drafted after both seasons with CofC, going to the Milwaukee Brewers organization in the 30th round in 2009. He played for two years with the Arizona Brewers, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Helena Brewers. Sizemore currently serves as the volunteer assistant coach for College of Charleston baseball, as he is in the middle of his third season on the coaching staff.

The College of Charleston Baseball Wall of Fame honors past players with outstanding accolades and contributions in their years at College of Charleston. Harker and Sizemore mark the 15th and 16th honorees since the Wall was created in 2004.

Murray Wins 2014 ExCEL Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award College of Charleston baseball senior Brandon Murray was honored with the 2014 ExCEL Male Student-Athlete of the Year award, as announced at a ceremony on March 26.

The annual awards program is designed to honor faculty, staff, students, alum, and neighbors (individuals, agencies, or companies) for their dedication to excellence and enhancing diversity on campus and in the community. This dedication is displayed through teaching, athleticism, student leadership, departmental support, or commitment to the community. Each year, the awards are sponsored by the Offi ce of Multicultural Student Programs and Services.

Hailing from Nassau, Bahamas, Murray has been a standout performer on the fi eld while representing the College of Charleston in his community. Last year, Murray spoke to potential students as part of the Multicultural Overnight Experience (M.O.V.E.), while also visiting the local MUSC Children’s Hospital. He has been a pivotal part of Charleston’s three-year involvement with raising money for childhood cancer research.

On the fi eld, Murray is one of the team’s captains and power hitters in the heart of the lineup. He was an All-CAA Preseason pick, and has been an All- Conference second teamer for the last two seasons.

“Brandon represents everything we try to exemplify in our program,” head coach Monte Lee said. “He works hard on the fi eld and in practice, setting the tone for his younger teammates. He also has been very involved in the community, always acting as a strong ambassador for our baseball program and for the College of Charleston.” 2014 Overall Record: 31-13 Home: 24-6 | Away: 7-7 | Neutral: 0-0 | CAA: 10-2
