Sono quattordici le azzurre in gara nel turno delle 64. Ieri, infatti, nella prima giornata di gare, che ha visto svolgersi la fase a gironi e gli assalti di qualificazione al tabellone principale che inizierà domattina alle 9.00 e che, complessivamente, vedrà al via ben quattordici azzurre. Alle quattro italiane già ammesse di diritto, in virtù del ranking internazionale, Valentina Vezzali, Elisa Di Francisca, Arianna Errigo ed Ilaria Salvatori, si sono aggiunte altre dieci atlete grazie alle rispettive prestazioni offerte nella giornata di qualificazione. Ad avere conquistato il pass per il tabellone delle 64 sono state Benedetta Durando, Carolina Erba, Francesca Palumbo, Chiara Cini, Martina Batini, Giovanna Trillini, Claudia Pigliapoco, Stefania Straniero, Serena Teo e Valentina Cipriani. Si sono invece fermate in otto. Marta Simoncelli, Erica Cipressa, Marta Cammilletti, Claudia Caracciolo e Maddalena Tagliapietra sono state sconfitte negli assalti del tabellone di qualificazione, mentre Valentina De Costanzo, Ilenia Orsolini e Maria Paccagnani sono state eliminate dopo la fase a gironi. Le fasi finali della prova individuale e la finalissima della gara a squadre, saranno riprese dalle telecamere di RaiSport e trasmesse, rispettivamente, stasera dalle 22.30 su RaiSport 1, domenica, alle 22.00, sempre su RaiSport1 e martedì sera dalle 21.30 alle 23.30 su RaiSport1. La cronaca è affidata all'esperto giornalista Federico Calcagno, con il commento tecnico di Stefano Pantano. La regia sarà a cura di Franco Venditti. Le giornate di gare di oggi e domenica, si potranno seguire, in diretta, anche su FederschermaTV, la web tv della Federazione Italiana Scherma, edita da Atleticom, che orienterà le proprie telecamere sulle pedane dove si svolgeranno gli assalti degli atleti azzurri, ad iniziare dal turno dei 32 (ore 12.40), con il commento a cura di Luca Magni.     World Championship Fencing Individual Results by George Masin This report shows the individual event medallists at every FIE World Championship (cadet, junior, senior, and veteran). Fencing World Championship Individual Medalists 1921 European Championships (Paris, FRA - 1921.VI.10-11) Prior to 1921 there were a number of competitions that called themselves World Championships. These were usually challenge matches between two fencers each or both of which called themselves world champions. Prior to the establishment of the Federation Internationale d’Escrime (FIE) in 1913, however, there was no international body to sanction a real world championship. It was not until after World War I and the 1920 Olympic Games, though, that the FIE finally sanctioned a championship. In these early championships, each country was allowed to enter a maximum of eight fencers. From 1921 through 1936 (except in the Olympic years of 1924 and 1928) the FIE sanctioned yearly competitions called the “Championnats d'Europe” (“European Championships”). In spite of their name, non-Europeans were allowed to compete in them and so these competitions are considered to be the first world championships for fencing. It was not until 1937 that the FIE officially changed the name of the competitions from “Championnats d'Europe” to “Championnats du Monde”. Men's Epee Individual (1921.VI.10-11) The European Championships were held as one of the events during the Grande Semaine des Armes de Combat which ran from June 5 to 12 and included the French national fencing championships and other fencing events as well as shooting events. On National Sports Day, I am really glad to know that Khelo North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, in my hometown, has released the Online Sports Magazine. I am especially happy to learn that, over the last few years, sport has been growing at such a rapid pace in Shillong, and other North Eastern regions. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of representing and winning trophies with several teams, across the country. I also had the greatest honour of donning the National Team jersey on a few occasions, and I am sure that with the passing of time, we will see more people from our neighbourhoods go on and make us proud. In defeat and in victory, I learned much, and I hope that this initiative, the ‘Khelo NEIGRIHMS’ Online Sports Magazine, brings its readers and supporters stories from across the world of sport, and has more children enthusiastic about sport in general.
