The four-year old Pavo-Cup also went to one of Bordeaux‘ daughters, Guadeloupe-Beau. In 2016, Guadeloupe-Beau was bronze medalist at the World Championships of five-year-old dressage horses in Ermelo (NED). Balou du Rouet won the finals of the German national championships, achieving the highest mark of 9.2 and has been successful at advanced level/S level many times. 2017 breeding highlights were Benthen’s Balou, premium stallion at the OS licensing in Vechta, and Honey Star, vice-champion of the OS elite mare show in Rastede’s Schlosspark. Balou‘s progeny, foals and sport horses, are much sought after at auctions in Germany and abroad. With such a first-class pedigree, success is inevitable. His sire Baloubet du Rouet, currently in 8th place in the WBFSH world ranking, three times World Cup winner, winner of individual Olympic Gold with Rodrigo Pessoa and sire to a multitude of international sport horses, is an amazing producer beyond any doubt.

All are individuals fully dedicated to Show Jumping and I am confident they will benefit the club in growing the popularity of the sport. I remain committed to the goal of increasing our membership figures, and I would like to extend my warmest welcome to Mr. Fiorelli from Italy, Mr. Romo from Mexico, Mr. Pellegrin from France, Mrs. Debany from the USA, Mr. Känhy from Switzerland, and Lady Forbes from Ireland. Following our previous meeting at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™, the club is in a strong financial state. With assets available to spend on initiatives which would help grow the membership of the JOC, I open the table up for discussion on any opportunities in which you, as members, feel the JOC should invest in. A topic introduced in Leipzig was the development of a JOC website to better inform all members, and followers of the sport, of our initiatives and commitment to the development of Show Jumping.

    livestock breeding LIVESTOCK BREEDING The achieved genetic gain is determined by two factors – the genetic potential of animals and environmental conditions in which this potential may be realised. To obtain high productivity levels while ensuring good animal fertility and health, both of these factors have to be refined simultaneously. Genetic improvement is a long-term and costly process that requires a consistent approach to selection and matching. The nucleus herds supervised by the National Support Centre for Agriculture (Krajowy Ośrodek Wsparcia Rolnictwa – KOWR) represent a high genetic level, which, in order to be maintained, necessitates drawing on global genetic resources, including the use of Polish- and foreign-bred bulls for breeding. Apart from using the semen of prominent bulls, embryo transfer constitutes one of the most effective and relatively quick methods enabling genetic gain. The primary objective of embryo transfer is to produce bulls for insemination and heifers bred for improving their own herds. In 2017, a total of 1,272 embryos were obtained and 984 embryos were transferred. Transfer efficacy was 57%. A high animal genetic potential is displayed only in good environmental conditions, when a proper nutrition programme based on balanced feed intake is ensured. Our companies have built new livestock buildings or modernised the existing ones, using innovative and functional technical solutions applied in the global livestock building industry. In barns, cows can move around freely, enjoy easy access to feed and have uninterrupted air circulation. With a loose-housing system, it was possible to identify technological and feeding groups, depending on the milk yield and physiological status of cows, as well as to apply precise feed rations under the TMR feeding system.

    eCanadian Connection Alexandra Reid - Canada’s Rising Dressage Star By Alexa Cheater At 20 years old, Alexandra Reid of Carlisle, Ontario, has al- ready made a name for herself on the North American dres- sage scene. With aspirations of an international career, this up-and-coming rider is definitely one to watch. Reid had a remarkable 2012 season, claiming the bronze medal for her Young Rider Individual performance at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championship in Lexington, Kentucky. Days later, she was on a plane headed to the London Olympics where she groomed for Canada’s David Marcus, her coach of the past two years. Alexandra returned from London to make a clean sweep of the FEI Young Rider divisions at both the CDI-W NEDA Fall Festival in Saugerties, New York and the prestigious CDI-W Dressage at Devon in Pennsylvania riding VIP, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Deborah Miculinic. With a combination of talent and tenacity, this rising star is sure to shine in 2013 as she continues to contest the Young Rider division. How did you begin riding? I always loved horses. I grew up in a small rural town so horses were very accessible. All of my friends had ponies and horses and there were plenty of schooling barns close by.
