We will gain more through “Your presence, O Lord, I seek.” (see Psalm 27) As we enter genuine prayer than with mere words.” the second week of Lent we would be wise to keep in mind - St. Teresa of Calcua this simple Scripture verse from Psalm 27 that we sang as our Responsorial Psalm for this Second Sunday of Lent. Pope Francis summoned The Pope said that “Lent is the time to free ourselves from the Christians to slow down illusion of chasing after dust” and for rediscovering that “we are in a fast-paced and often created for God, not for the world; for the eternity of heaven, not directionless life and fast for earthly deceit; for the freedom of the children of God, not for from the unnecessary slavery to things. We should ask ourselves today: Where do I things that distract us, to stand? Do I live for fire or for ash?” heed Lent that he described as "a wake-up The three steps of Lent call for the soul". Pope Francis reminded the faithful that the Gospel proposes three steps that are to be undertaken without hypocrisy and The Pope’s words came during the homily at Holy Mass on Ash pretense: almsgiving, prayer, fasting. Pope Francis marks the beginning of Lent He noted that this wake-up call is accompanied by the message God, my neighbor, my life that the Lord proclaims through the lips of the prophet: “Return to He explained that "God, my neighbor, my life" are the realities that do not fade away and in which we must invest. me.”

If we have to return, the Pope said, it means that we have Lent, Pope Francis said, invites us to focus, “first of all on the wandered off. Reflection by Saverio Grosso Mountain Top Experiences O n the second Sunday of Lent, we move from temptation in Second Week of Lent the desert to the glory shown in Jesus' Transfiguration. Found in each of the Synoptic Gospels, the Transfiguration occurs after Peter's Go through that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus' prediction about His Passion and the your discussion of the cost of discipleship. The placement of the Transfiguration story close to these events encourages us to examine the Transfiguration in Closets the context of the ; Jesus went to the mountain knowing full well what awaited Him in Jerusalem - betrayal, rejection and crucifixion! The event occurs on a mountain in the presence of just three of Jesus' disciples—Peter, James and John. Only Luke's Gospel indicates that Jesus is praying as His appearance changes to bright white. Donate clothes, toys This recalls Moses’ meeting with God on Mount Sinai. Afterwards, the And Canned Foods Israelites could not look at Moses' face because of its brightness. We also notice the cloud which overshadowed Jesus is the “shekinah” cloud that Jews expected to return when the Messiah came. This cloud, signifying God’s presence, only appears in the New Testament one other time - the Annunciation! As they awake, Peter and the disciples see Jesus Transfigured, and Elijah and Moses present with Him. Both men are significant figures in the history of Israel and represent Jesus' continuity with the Law and the Prophets. Perhaps God sent Moses and Elijah to encourage Jesus in the difficult path that lay ahead for Him. Peter, perhaps still a little confused after awakening to these Please join us in praying events, offers to construct three tents for them. Luke describes Peter as “not Confirmation for our Confirmation knowing what he said” (v. 33).
