ANOHNI: MIRACLE NOW EN INTRODUKTION TIL UDSTILLINGEN / AN INTRODUCTION TO THE EXHIBITION MAY 24 – AUGUST 5 2018 MIRACLE NOW “Does nature evolve, or does She just change? So much information can now be stored in a tiny space. Scientists have said recently that ancestral trauma changes our genome in detectable ways. I imagine that in the future we shall put a drop of water into a machine and it will reveal to us every moment that its atoms have ever ex- perienced, and every living and inanimate body that it has ever been a part of. When I first staged the play Miracle Now in 1995, my dream was that Nature would remem- ber every one of Her vanished faces, and that this knowledge would somehow inform Her next iteration. This was a hopeful idea to me, in the face of impending eco-col- lapse.” – ANOHNI “Nothing goes unrecorded. • Psaudio Copper
Issue 41 SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2017 Welcome to Copper #41! The title isn't to announce a James Taylor retrospective---sorry to crush your hopes--- but is just what I see in today's weather reports. The Pacific Northwest, where I'm bound for a long-delayed vacation, is up in flames, along with many other parts of the tinder-dry US. Meanwhile, back in my former home of Florida...they've already had nearly two feet of rain, and Hurricane Irma is not even close to the state yet. Stay safe, everyone. I'm really pleased and excited to have Jason Victor Serinus back with us, with the first part of an intensive introduction to art song. Jason brings tremendous knowledge of the field, and provides plenty of recorded examples to listen to, and in the case of videos, watch. There are many stunning performances here, and I hope you enjoy this extraordinary resource. We'll have Part 2 in Copper #42. Dan Schwartz is again in the lead-off spot with the second in his series of articles on encounters–this one, with Phil Lesh and crew; Seth Godin tells us how control is overrated; Richard Murison hears a symphony; Duncan Taylor takes us to Take 1; Roy Hall tells about a close encounter of the art kind; Anne E. Johnson introduces indie artist Anohni; and I worry about audio shows (AGAIN, Leebs??), and conclude my look at Bang & Olufsen. Industry News tells of the sale of audiophile favorite, Conrad-Johnson; Gautam Raja is back with an amazing story that I think you'll really enjoy, all about Carnatic music, overlooked heritage, and the universal appeal of rock music; and Jim Smith takes another warped look at LPs.

  • In Search of Japanoise Globalizing Underground Music
16 In Search of Japanoise Globalizing Underground Music David Novak In 1990, I had just returned from a year of teaching English in Japan, so I was surprised when I came back to college in Ohio and started to hear about “Jap- anese Noise Music.” Some cut out the “music” idea altogether and called it all “Japanese Noise,” and others just compressed it to “Japanoise.” The name was supposed to identify a specic Japanese type of “Noise,” which was already a pretty vague genre name. Some friends added that its top artists mostly came from the Kansai region and the cities Osaka and Kyoto where I’d been living. I’d run into some noisy punk rock and experimental music in little under- ground record stores and small clubs around Japan … but Japanoise? I had never heard of it until I was back in the United States, when the Boredoms’ LP Soul Discharge found its way to the college radio station where I was a DJ, and tapped into the emerging independent music scene. At the time, the ow of underground cassettes, CDs, and vinyl into the station was increasing on a daily level. But dropping the needle on Soul Discharge released the most spectacularly dissonant racket I’d ever heard, tog- gling through a spectrum of styles and sounds. Sometimes Boredoms sounded like a hardcore band, sometimes a random Dada cutup of popular culture: it was desperately heavy but also funny as hell. You couldn’t possibly take it seriously, but, at the same time, it demanded your full attention.

  • Manifestations of Transphobia in Computer-Mediated Communication… 103
Studies in Polish Linguistics vol. 14, 2019, issue 3, pp. 101–123 doi:10.4467/23005920SPL.19.016.11081 www.ejournals.eu/SPL https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3481-1421 Jagiellonian University Magdalena Derecka Manifestations of Transphobia in Computer- Mediated Communication. A Case Study of Language Discrimination in English and Polish Internet-Mediated Discourse Abstract This article aims to investigate the linguistic means of transphobic discrimination observed on the Internet. The languages analysed are English and Polish, since they both offer their speakers direct and indirect ways that discrimination manifests itself, yet Polish seems to enable a more noticeable means because of the presence of grammatical gender in the lan- guage. The paper discusses twelve samples of Computer-Mediated Communication, using the methodological tools offered by Critical Discourse Analysis and Queer Theory. Based on the analysis of the samples, the article shows that even though transphobia lies mainly in lexical choices of the speaker, it is not always direct, i.e. visible in insults and attacks on a trans person, but is oftentimes indirect, i.e. visible in the incorrect use of personal pro- nouns in both English and Polish, or in the incorrect use of grammatical gender in Polish. Moreover, while transphobia visible in language is not always intended by the speaker, it can still be considered to be discriminatory. Keywords computer-mediated communication, discriminatory language, grammatical gender, social media, transphobia, transphobic language Streszczenie Artykuł ma na celu zbadanie środków językowych używanych w języku transfobicznym zaobserwowanym w internecie.

  • ANOHNI Miracle Now Pressemeddelelse
ANOHNI opnåede først international anerkendelse med sit band Antony and the Johnsons, som opstod ud af after-hours performance-scenen i 1990ernes New York.

! Artist: Hercules & Love Affair Title: The Change EP Label: Skint Records / BMG EP Release: November 1st 2019 Single Release: October 11th 2019 Cat #: SKINT411 Format: Digital After over ten years of Hercules and Love Affair, Andy Butler offers three reimagined versions of classic Hercules tunes and a piece of new music on “The Change EP”. Produced with current partner in crime Alec Storey (aka Second Storey), the two have been touring the Hercules catalog with an approach that incorporates a proper dose of techno while duly engaging Storey’s penchant for breaks and intricate percussion work. Butler decided to put a few of these reworks out for DJS and dancefloors, offering the chance for these great Hercules moments to shine once again. “I have always wanted to play out particular songs from my catalog in my sets more like “Raise Me Up” from the first LP or “Are You Still Certain?” from Omnion and I figured here is my chance to spin them out and get them into my sets again .” The new song entitled “Change” for which the EP is titled after is a bass-heavy, gritty number that is a darker offering than much of what Hercules and Love Affair is perhaps known for. That said, change has always been more than evident in the story of Hercules and Love Affair. Initially conceived during the making of Hercules’s last album Omnion, the biting lyrics speak to the inevitability of change and some people’s resistance to it. “Change is really a double edged sword- while some doors open, some doors close.
