Dec. 29 - At noon, meet at the lobby for cultural and domestic law orientation at the hotel lobby. - Shopping for what we need for the next three weeks (cellphone, sim cards, - Debriefing at 6:oopm before group dinner (discuss logistical needs) - Introduction to the genocide education team at the Documentation Center of Cambodia and get to know their outreach activities to survivors. Dec. 30 - Afternoon visit to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - Debriefing at the hotel 1st class held at the hotel in Phnom Penh - 8:00-9:00 am: Introduction (issues or concerns from previous days) - 9:00-10:30 am: Lecture on the history of the Cambodian genocide - 10:30-11:00 am: Break Dec. 31 - 11:00 am-12:00 pm: Watch a documentary film “Playing the Game, Cambodia: The Bloodiest Dominos” - 12:00-2:00 pm: Lunch - 2-4pm: Class discussion 2nd Class – Causes of the Cambodian Genocide Jan. 1 9:00am-12pm: Read Hinton’s, Kiernan’s and Heder’s chapters - Trip by car to Sihanoukville City, depart at 7:00am sharp. Stay just one night at Naia Resort Sihanoukville (http://www.sihanoukville- Jan 2-3 cambodia.com/sihanoukville-businesses/2015/naia-resort.html). - Jan 2, Debriefing at 6:00pm and dinner at 7:00am - Jan 3 depart Sihanoukville after lunch around 2:00pm. 3nd Class (same conference room) - 8:00-10:00am: Lecture on the Politics of Bringing the Khmer Rouge to Justice - 11:30 am-12:30 pm: Class discussion on the concepts of “retributive justice” and “restorative justice” Jan. 4 - 12:30-2:00pm: Lunch break - 2:00-3:00: Interview methodology and draft questionnaire for interviews - 3:30-6:00pm: Boat trip on the Mekong River, Continue to draft the questionnaire. - 7:00pm debriefing and prepare to visit the KRT - Case 002/02 (the treatment of the Vietnamese) trial hearing at the ECCC from 9:00am-4:00pm (leave hotel at 7:00am by car). Need to arrive by Jan. 5 8:15am for registration and security screening. Stay here till Jan. 14 Jan. 9-10 - 4th Class (afternoon) - 2:00-5:00pm: Revise and review Complete questionnaires - Visit to Angkor Wat and other ancient Khmer temples 1st Day of Interview - Day trip to villages in Siem Reap province to interview survivors Jan. 11 - Need to bring lunch box for the trip - Dinner and class debriefing at the hotel in Siem Reap city 2nd Day of Interview - Day trip to villages in Siem Reap province to interview survivors Jan. 12 - Need to bring lunch box for the trip - Dinner back in the city (with team or on your own) Field Trip to Anlong Veng (Banteay Meanchey Province) - 7:00am (by car) depart for Anlong Veng (last Khmer Rouge stronghold where Pol Pot died) - Visit Pol Pot Grave near the Thai-Cambodian border) Jan. 13 - Visit Ta Mok Musuem and talk to former Khmer Rouge cadres - Lunch in Anlong Veng provincial town - 3:00pm: Return to Siem Reap City - Evening: Dinner and class debriefing Move to Anachak Boutique Hotel Siem Reap (http://www.anachakboutiquehotel.com/) Stay there still Jan. 17. 3rd Day of Interview Jan. 14 - Day trip (by car) to a university in Siem Reap and interview students/children of survivors who were borne after the Pol Pot regime. - Lunch in Siem Reap city - Afternoon: write report and paper outline at the hotel - Evening: dinner at the Night Market and class debriefing Writing interview report and prepare presentation Excursion and sight-seeing Jan. 15-16 - Day trip (by car) to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom temple - Elephant ride to visit Leu Phnom (mountain top) temple Return to Phnom Penh and stay at Frankipani Royal Palace Hotel Jan. 17 (http://www.frangipanipalacehotel.com/) for another night in the capital Group dinner at the riverfront and debriefing Depart Phnom Penh for NYC, Jan. 18 Depart for the airport after group lunch around 3:00pm.
