His first game in charge was a 5-1 defeat by England at Wembley in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier, but he was subsequently installed as the permanent head coach. • However, Storck was sacked in October 2010 after presiding over four losses at the start of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying and resurfaced at Olympiacos' youth team, taking charge for the inaugural UEFA Youth League group stage in 2013/14. • In July 2015 he took charge of Hungary, having led the national side at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand the previous month, and promptly ended their 44-year absence from the UEFA European Championship thanks to a play-off defeat of Norway. First, in March, at the next ordinary UEFA Congress, the terms of six members of the UEFA Executive Committee come to an end, three of whom are not standing for re-election. In addition, the seat that has been vacant since the death of Mathieu Sprengers has to be filled, as do two additional seats, giving the Executive Committee an unprecedented injection of new blood. Then in May, the current club competition cycle concludes. In the UEFA Champions League, it will be the last final to be played on a Wednesday, thereby ending a tradition that dates back to the creation of the competition. In the UEFA Cup, it will be the last final ever under that name before the competition becomes the UEFA Europa League and takes on a brand-new format. This year also heralds the end of an era for the UEFA Women’s Cup, which is set to change format and be linked to the UEFA Champions League, with the finals of the two competitions to take place in future in the same city during the same week.

FC Köln, VfL Bochum 1848, Austria • A former midfielder, Koller spent his entire playing career with Swiss side Grasshoppers, making over 400 league appearances from 1978 to 1997 and winning seven league titles and five Swiss Cups. • Capped 55 times by Switzerland, he scored three goals for his country and made two appearances at EURO '96, coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw with hosts England and starting the 1-0 loss to Scotland. • Began coaching career at Wil in 1997 and took over at St Gallen two years later, leading the club to their first Swiss championship since 1903/04 in his maiden season. Returned to Grasshoppers in 2002 and promptly secured the Swiss league crown, but resigned in October 2003 after a disappointing run. • Appointed by Köln the following month, he was sacked after the Bundesliga team finished the season bottom, yet bounced back at Bochum in 2005, earning promotion to the top tier in his first campaign. • Dismissed by Bochum in September 2009, Koller was installed as Austria coach on 4 October 2011, replacing Dietmar Constantini.

    THURSDAY, MAY 26, 2016 Spain needs a better spine to reign again BARCELONA: For all Vicente del Bosque’s confidence that he has the right balance of experience and youth to return Spain to their familiar place on the winner’s rostrum, ques- tions remain about his best starting line-up ahead of Euro 2016. On the surface, Spain’s qualifying record of nine wins out of 10 going into the tournament looks impressive but they rarely delivered performances to suggest they could pick up a third successive title or banish the memories of their 2014 World Cup failure. No-one will be keener to prove the doubters wrong than Del Bosque in what looks to be his last hurrah as Spain’s coach. Once again he can call on trusted stalwarts Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos and Cesc Fabregas, all regulars before or since the 2010 World Cup triumph, this time blending them with a new generation of young players such as Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, Atletico Madrid midfield- er Koke and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata. “I really believe in the veterans who have spent a long time with us and we trust the newcomers, who give the squad impulse and fresh blood,” said Del Bosque. “Our objective is to think beyond the two European Championships we’ve won, because people are only going to value what we do in the next one.” Another triumph will require a settled spine to his team, yet there remains uncertainty over who will start as central striker and in goal, where the manager must decide whether to demote Iker Casillas in favor of De Gea, whose consistently outstanding performances in the last three seasons contrast with the long-standing captain’s waning powers.
