UEFA EURO 2016 represents their fifth attempt to reach the continental finals. Before gaining independence in 1992 the country supplied several top players to Yugoslavia. EURO pedigree Matches played Overall: P52 W22 D9 L21 F73 A73 Final tournament: P0 W0 D0 L0 F0 A0 Qualifying: P52 W22 D9 L21 F73 A73 Bosnia and Herzegovina made their UEFA European Championship debut with a 1-0 win against the Faroe Islands in August 1998 and have been close to the finals twice before. Victory against Denmark in Sarajevo in their final qualifying game would have sent Blaž Slišković's team to UEFA EURO 2004, but a 1-1 draw meant they finished fourth in a competitive section. They again came close in their final UEFA EURO 2012 Group D fixture, Safet Sušić's side drawing 1-1 against France in Paris when victory would have taken them through. As it was, they finished as runners-up – the 20-point haul their best yet in the competition – but in the play-offs they were no match for Portugal. Memorable EURO matches 02/06/07: Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-2 Turkey, UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying Adnan Ćustović's late goal earned a first competitive home win in eight years at the Koševo Stadium. 02/04/03: Denmark 0-2 Bosnia and Herzegovina, UEFA EURO 2004 qualifying Slišković's side won despite having to draft in three U21 starlets who had played 24 hours earlier. 09/10/99: Estonia 1-4 Bosnia and Herzegovina, UEFA EURO 2000 qualifying Elvir Baljić scored all four as Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed a first away win in EURO qualifying. Did you know? Sušić's men were 12 minutes from victory in Paris in that final UEFA EURO 2012 group game before Samir Nasri's penalty consigned Bosnia and Herzegovina to the play-offs. A 0-0 draw in Zenica preceded a 6-2 loss in Portugal – equalling their heaviest ever EURO qualifying defeat. *Last updated on 14/10/15 6 UEFA EURO 2016 - PLAY-OFF DRAW Sunday 18 October 2015 - 11.20CET (11.20 local time) Press kit Nyon, Switzerland Bosnia and Herzegovina - Coach profile Mehmed Baždarević Date of birth: 28 September 1960 Nationality: Bosnian Playing career: FK Željezničar, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Nîmes Olympique, Étoile Carouge FC Coaching career: FC Istres, Étoile du Sahel, Al-Wakrah SC (twice), Grenoble Foot 38, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, MC Alger, Bosnia and Herzegovina • Baždarević played in midfield for Sarajevo-based Željezničar, helping them reach the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 1984/85. • Transferred to France for a lengthy spell with Sochaux, and was named as the best foreign player in Ligue 1 in 1988/89. • Fotballproff I Utlandet En Eksplorerende Historisk Undersøkelse Av Norges Utenlandsproffer I Fotball Gjennom Tidene

  • NETHERLANDS V ITALY MATCH PRESS KIT Municipal, Aveiro Monday, 29 May 2006 - 19:45 Local Time Final Tournament - Group Phase Group B - Matchday 6
NETHERLANDS v ITALY MATCH PRESS KIT Municipal, Aveiro Monday, 29 May 2006 - 19:45 local time Final tournament - Group phase Group B - Matchday 6 For two countries with rich heritage at all levels, it is perhaps surprising that when the Netherlands and Italy come face to face in the third and final round of Group B matches at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, it will be their first competitive meeting. Italy sit top of the group with four points thanks to Giorgio Chiellini's added-time winner against Ukraine which followed their similarly dramatic 3-3 draw with Denmark. The Netherlands are still looking for their first victory after losing to Ukraine then drawing with Denmark, and must win to advance. • The countries have rarely come into opposition at youth level either, although when they have crossed paths it has invariably been a close contest. At the 2005 European U17 Championship hosts Italy won through to a semi-final against the Dutch but home advantage proved irrelevant on this occasion with Melvin Zaalman getting the only goal for the Netherlands in extra time. Italy had had the better of their four meetings at U16 level with three victories including a 6-1 triumph in the 1990 qualifying round and edged out the Dutch on penalties to reach the U18 finals in 1998/99, when they went on to the final before losing to Portugal. • At senior level perhaps their most significant meeting was in the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2000™ when, on home soil, the Dutch missed two penalties in normal time against ten-man Italy with Frank de Boer and Patrick Kluivert both failing from the spot.
