ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.

In The Brown Bullet, Bill Poehler uncovers the life of a long-forgotten trailblazer and the great lengths he took to even get on the track, and in the end, tells how Rajo Jack proved to a generation that a black man could compete with some of the greatest white drivers of his era, wining some of the biggest races of the day. The ‚DRM’ (=Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft) was the most important German racing series from 1972 to 1985, which got designed to establish a title with international meaning and relevance. 14 years of touring- and sports car racing of the highest level that motorsports can offer. Classic touring cars and GT were the start: The main features of the sports gear were stripped out, lightened car bodies, performance-enhanced engines and improved suspensions, transmissions and brakes. Stronger, lighter, faster - the tubular frame designs of Group 5 coupled with the turbo age are what subsequently gave the DRM probably the best and most spectacular races. Group C ultimately heralded the end: fascinating, thoroughbred racing cars, but simply too expensive for a national championship to offer the series a future. • From Tc3 to Tcr New Touring Car Series Gets Green Light
5 December 2014 FROM TC3 TO TCR NEW TOURING CAR SERIES GETS GREEN LIGHT The FIA World Motor Sports Council, meeting in Qatar, has approved the new global Touring Car series proposed for 2015, formerly known as the TC3 International Series. To coincide with the announcement, the promoter WSC Ltd, has decided to change the name of the series to TCR International Series and has also announced that Marcello Lotti has been appointed as CEO of the company. Marcello Lotti explained the reasons for the name change: “The name TC3 has been chosen to introduce the technical concept of a global Touring Car category, based on production cars, that was affordable to private teams and drivers and inspired by the existing GT3 concept. “We have decided on the change of name of the series to TCR that will create a strong and personal identity for the new series. In addition, the name change will avoid any potential confusion with other Touring Car championships and series that might suggest pre-arranged hierarchies.” The TCR International Series website URL will be www.tcr-series.com while Facebook and Twitter accounts will also reflect the change of name. The TCR International Series will visit twelve countries over three continents during its inaugural season. 2015 Calendar 29 March Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia 12 April Shanghai International Circuit, China 3 May Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, Spain 10 May Autódromo Internacional Algarve (Portimão), Portugal 24 May Autodromo di Monza, Italy 31 May Salzburgring, Austria 21 June Sochi Autodrom, Russia 26 July Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez (Buenos Aires), Argentina 9 August Autódromo Internacional Codegua, Chile 20 September Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore 25 October Buriram International Circuit, Thailand 22 November TBA TCR International Series 6 Dyers’ Building London EC1N 2JT, UK www.tcr-series.com .

  • Yokohama Rubber's Support for Motor Sports in 2014
March 4, 2014 Contact: For immediate release Corporate Communications Dept. Phone: 81-3-5400-4531 Fax: 81-3-5400-4570 Yokohama Rubber’s Support for Motor Sports in 2014 Tokyo – The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today its plans for supporting motor sports events in 2014. Support for motor sports in Japan and overseas is a key element in the improvement and development of tire technology, globalization of the Company’s tire business and helps to raise recognition of the YOKOHAMA tire brand. In addition, participation in motor sports events enables the Company to contribute not only to the motor sports scene but also to the growth, development and revitalization of the automobile industry as a whole. YOKOHAMA looks forward to participating in many events this year. A brief summary of the main events follows. ■ FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) YOKOHAMA has been the FIA WTCC’s official tire supplier since 2006. Since 2010, the Company has supplied the WTCC with its YOKOHAMA ADVAN racing tires, which use the Company’s proprietary orange oil compounding technology to enhance environmental performance while maintaining superior grip performance. Following a contract extension last year, YOKOHAMA is pleased that it will be supplying tires to the WTCC opening race (2013) WTCC through 2015, which will be our relationship’s 10th consecutive year. In 2014, new regulations for the racing cars have led to the introduction of a new car classification, TC1. Cars in this class will feature greater engine power and larger aerodynamic parts, increasing their speed. As a result, TC1 cars will use 18-inch tires with larger widths as well as inner and outer diameters than the previous norm, 17-inch tires, which will be used on TC2 class cars, which are built to previous specifications.

  • The ANDIAL 935-L 'Moby Dick'
www.porscheroadandrace.com The ANDIAL 935-L ‘Moby Dick’ Published: 22nd December 2017 By: Martin Raffauf Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/the-andial-935-l-moby-dick/ Side view of the ANDIAL 935-L ‘Moby Dick’ in the Riverside pit lane 1982 The ANDIAL 935-L ‘Moby Dick’ race car was a one-off creation that raced between 1982-1985. Read on to discover more of this amazing race car’s story. In 1980, IMSA introduced the concept of GTP cars in their rules for 1981. These would be www.porscheroadandrace.com ground effect prototype cars with various types of engines. Porsche had long since stopped building any 935s, as they were preparing for the new Group C formula in Europe in 1982 and working on what would become the 956. IMSA and the FIA (ACO) had a large parting of the ways in terms of rules at that time. The Group C formula would be fuel-based, i.e. a specific amount of fuel per race, using a ground effect prototype chassis. IMSA went in the opposite direction, still with a prototype chassis but with no fuel limits of any kind. Various engines were approved with various minimum weights. It could be said that the first ‘IMSA GTP car’ was the Inaltera-Ford that ran at Daytona in 1977 as an FIA invited car.
