From the Golden Gate to Tinsel Town this tour itinerary includes must see places along the Big Sur coast on the Pacific. You can choose just the three day tour along the coast or combine it with San Francisco and/or Los Angeles to make it a 5 or 7 day package vacation. Tours in San Francisco, to Monterey, along the Big Sur, to Hearst Castle and in Los Angeles are with a driver guide on a motor coach. From Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles you travel by AMTRAK Coast Starlight. Day 1: (D) San Francisco. 2 nights at The Handlery Union Square Hotel or Tuscan Inn Fisherman’s Wharf *. Afternoon free for exploring the city, Fisherman’s Wharf, riding cable cars, etc. Dinner tonight or tomorrow at an Italian restaurant. Day 4: (B) South on Cabrillo Highway One to Bixby Bridge. On to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to see the Giant Coastal Redwoods. Continue on Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway to San Simeon, for a tour of Hearst Castle built by Julia Morgan during the 1920s and 1930s for the art collection of world famous newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst. See the movie “Building the Dream”. Spend the night at the historic Paso Robles Inn or Apple Farm Inn, San Luis Obispo.. Day 5: Morning free or optional 1/2 day Wine Wrangler tour to visit 3 local wineries, cost about $109 including lunch. The Coast Starlight train leaves Paso Robles at 1:45 or San Luis Obispo at 3:20. The hotel will provide the transfer to the train station. The rails go by Pismo Beach to Pt. Arguello. Through restricted Vandenberg Air Force Base see launch pads for the space rockets and then some of the most scenic ocean views all the way through Santa Barbara to Oxnard. Turning inland the train goes past miles of orange groves then through Simi Valley and Glendale. At about 9:00 p.m. we arrive in the heart of the great metropolis of Los Angeles at the Union Station that you may recognize from many Hollywood films. (If you want to reach Los Angeles earlier Pacific Surfliner Train—no vista dome car or dining car—leaves San Luis Obispo 6:55 a.m. arriving Union Station at 12:15.) L.A. Bustle and Stars— Day 5: Check in for two nights Miyako Hotel in Little Tokyo district of downtown Los Angeles. Day 6: Grand tour of Los Angeles (about 8 hours). See Hollywood sign, Rodeo Drive, Melrose, Sunset Strip, Farmers Market, Olvera Street, Chinatown, The Music Center, Griffith Park Observatory and Movie Stars’ Homes in Beverly Hills and Bel Air.
