Those were the top five Google searches in 2016.1 Although it is hard to get a specific number from Google, it is estimated that Google handles more than two trillion searches per year. When doing the math that makes more than 63,000 searches per second.2 With numbers like these, you can see how important it is for us to gather information and with the right tools we have 24/7 access as well. If it didn’t matter what sort of information we receive, then everything would be fine. But in the era where expressions like “fake news” seem to pop up everywhere, the question seems to arise whether anything we read is true, or better yet, “is truth dead in the information age?” To fully understand all the nuances of this question a few definitions are required. When looking at the expression “information age” it refers to a period of time starting at the end of the 20th century and continuing into the foreseeable future. It is the change from the industrial to the post-industrial society where a large portion of the economy lies in information technology. It is shaped by the invention of the computer and telecommunication thereby changing how information is spread, managed and saved. 3 For this essay, I will be referring to the last three to four decades that include the invention of the internet, allowing information to travel around the world in seconds as well as offering access to more people than ever before. -

Box 500, Batavia, IL 60510, USA and 3 Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL 60637, USA Draft version February 20, 2019 ABSTRACT We present a new, probabilistic method for determining the systemic proper motions of Milky Way (MW) ultra-faint satellites in the Dark Energy Survey (DES). We utilize the superb photometry from the first public data release (DR1) of DES to select candidate members, and cross-match them with the proper motions from Gaia DR2. We model the candidate members with a mixture model (satellite and MW) in spatial and proper motion space. This method does not require prior knowledge of satellite membership, and can successfully determine the tangential motion of thirteen DES satellites. With our method we present measurements of the following satellites: Columba I, Eridanus III, Grus II, Phoenix II, Pictor I, Reticulum III, and Tucana IV; this is the first systemic proper motion measurement for several and the majority lack extensive spectroscopic follow-up studies. We compare these to the predictions of Large Magellanic Cloud satellites and to the vast polar structure. With the high precision DES photometry we conclude that most of the newly identified member stars are very metal-poor ([Fe/H] . -

A 10- to 12-year construction plan unveiled Wednesday includes the last phase of the plutonium facility known as the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement facility, as well as plans to replace several other buildings, build waste treatment facilities and close two material disposal areas. The work would mean about 1,000 new jobs. LANL officials offered a first glimpse ofthe projects to area residents, local officials and potential contractors at a meeting in Espanola. "It's about to become very busy," said John Bretzke, deputy associate director for project management and site services. The projects are likely to cost in the billions, although lab officials hesitated Wednesday to put a price tag on the work. "As much as I would like to answer that, I can't," Bretzke said in an interview. The plans for the work along the Pajarito Road corridor are preliminary and the budget for them requires Congressional approval, but many who attended the two-hour meeting had questions.
