Enero De 2001 Liahona LA IGLESIA DE JESUCRISTO DE LOS SANTOS DE LOS ÚLTIMOS DÍAS ■ ENERO DE 2001 LIAHONA Sesión de la Conferencia General, por Joy Gough El nuevo Centro de Conferencias cumple su objetivo en una sesión de la Conferencia General Semestral número 170 de la Iglesia dando cabida a 21.000 miembros que escuchan el consejo inspirado de las Autoridades Generales. A pesar de eso, puesto que hubo más personas que deseaban escuchar, se ocuparon los 900 asientos que tiene el Teatro del Centro de Conferencias, así como los del Tabernáculo, los del Salón de Asambleas de la Manzana del Templo y los de las salas del Edificio Conmemorativo José Smith. La Casa Milenaria de la Colmena, por Grant Romney Clawson Edificada en 1854, la casa de la Colmena, en la esquina de South Temple y State Street, en Salt Lake City, fue originalmente la casa del presidente Brigham Young. Las dos habitaciones del oeste (izquierda) se utilizaron como oficinas presidenciales de la Iglesia hasta 1918. Today's culture is losing the plot about marriage, motherhood, and family life. As our Primary children sing "Follow the Prophet," they sing this verse: "Now we have a world where people are confused. If you don't believe it, go and watch the news."1 Church members aren't immune from this confusion. A Latter-day Saint mother who was called to work with young single adults was expecting a new baby. One by one, several of her young women privately asked her how she really felt about having another child. In a spirit of deep womanly trust, they asked questions that reflected honest anxiety about being bound to husbands and assuming the burdens of motherhood. She told us she was surprised to hear concerns like this from young women who were believing, active Church members. In response, she invited each young woman to do what she had allowed only her husband and children to do. She tenderly placed one of their hands on her abdomen and invited them to feel the baby's movements. Then, with her hand on theirs, she lovingly taught each one that, despite the relentless demands, she had discovered an exquisite happiness through being married and having children. These young women drank with deep reassurance from her wellsprings of testimony. But today, people without mentors like that can be very confused.

The vocational classes, scattered throughout Utah and Wasatch counties, were centralized in mid-1941 under Central Utah Vocational School. Following the war, only the dogged determination of its administrators and school district officials kept the school from dissolution, and it became a permanent state-supported institution in 1947. In 1963, to reflect its evolving status and mission, Central Utah Vocational School became the Utah Trade Technical Institute at Provo. In 1967, the school was named the Utah Trade Technical College at Provo. By 1987, it became Utah Valley Community College, and by 1993 it had evolved into Utah Valley State College.
