From: Lee Greenwald To: FS-objections-pnw-mthood Subject: Twilight Parking lot Date: Monday, March 03, 2014 11:44:20 PM Attachments: 2013 International Report on Snow Mountain Tourism.pdf Cross-country skiing experiencing a Nordic renaissance Olympian.pdf Twilight Parking Lot OBJECTION 3-1-14 EAE v2.doc Dear objections official, I previously raised several objections concerning Mt Hood Meadows application to build the Twilight Parking lot. Though some, not all, of these objections were ostensibly addressed in their responses, they were not addressed fully nor adequately. I raised concerns regarding Meadows assumptions on growth in demand for Alpine skiing. The last ten years MHM stated continued growth trends, but actually the most recent previous two years that has not been the trend. The true growth is in Nordic skiing. The majority of the Nordic community is against the creation of the Twilight lot without a comprehensive analysis of potential future use of this terrain, and nearby Nordic trails and connecting trails. This type of analysis has not been done, and would be precluded by proceeding with the construction of the Twilight lot before all future use options have been considered. Second, I asked that MHM be required by the FS to place the funds, $500,000, for a Nordic center in a designated account for a future Nordic center building, and a restrictive timeline for construction. If the parking lot is to be built, the Nordic community should have some prior input on the Nordic facility to be built prior to the lots final approval. The response that was posted simply stated that "a" facility would be built within three years.

  • Strategic Marketing Management of Ski-Resorts in Bosnia and Herzegovina: a Competitive Analysis
International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences August 2013, Vol. 3, No. 8 ISSN: 2222-6990 Strategic Marketing Management of Ski-Resorts in Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Competitive Analysis Nedzma Begic International Burch University, Faculty of Economics, Bosnia and Herzegovina [email protected] Teoman Duman International Burch University, Faculty of Economics, Bosnia and Herzegovina [email protected] DOI: 10.6007/IJARBSS/v3-i8/174 URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.6007/IJARBSS/v3-i8/174 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to analyze competitive positions of five ski resorts in Bosnia and Herzegovina using Porter’s generic competitive strategies. Bosnia and Herzegovina is rich with winter tourism opportunities and as a developing country it offers different customer groups more services in time. Managements of ski resorts in the country are looking for ways to strategically position their services to appeal more suitable customer bases. The results of qualitative analysis show that each ski resort in the country has its own strengths in regards to cost leadership, differentiation and focus strategies. Wiser strategies in marketing of these winter tourism services will help managements more productive business efforts. Keywords: Ski Resorts, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Competition, Porter’s Competitive Strategies Introduction Marketing strategy consists of selecting and analyzing the target markets (groups of people where the organization wants to sell) and the creation and maintenance of an appropriate marketing mix (product, price, distribution and promotion) that will meet needs and wants of these people. Marketing strategy includes a plan for the best and most efficient use of resources and tactics to achieve its goals.

  • Urbanism and Geography of the Olympic Winter Games
2012 Urbanism and geography of the Olympic Winter Games Mgr. Igor Kováč Národné športové centrum 6. júna 2012 Urbanism and geography of the Olympic Winter Games Introduction This contribution focuses on urban and spatial aspects in organisation of the Olympic Winter Games. It explains the role of urbanism within this process, implying the reasons which allow its distinguishing as an “Olympic” phenomenon. In this regard, an Olympic geography will be defined and its role will be further explained, resulting into identification of Olympic territory as a common platform of the both. Consequently, the concept of Olympic urbanism model will be introduced as a result of application of geographical approaches in studying the Olympic urbanism, in order to provide a historical overview and final synthesis of the factors determining spatial organisation of the Olympic Winter Games in host territories. Olympic urbanism Without any intention to exclude its environmental specifics, the Winter Games as a sort of mega-event can be clearly understood “...as an important urban phenomenon of our time...an one-time urban event with increasing prevalence as an urban strategy...” (Hiller, 2000: 185). Of course, the mountainous specifications of the Winter Games cannot be neglected as they essentially modify this strategy. In any way, however, it is the urbanism, a set of scientific and artistic methods and procedures used in the formation of human settlement, which represent those strategies. The main concern of urbanism, as one of its definitions says, is the formation and composition of urban organism and wider territorial units, following the quality of the human living environment, affected by natural, material, cultural and social aspects, highlighting the concrete population needs as its direct starting point.

Key study: Sarajevsko Polje E. Hadžića, N. Lazovića and A. Mulaomerović-Šetaa* aFaculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo/ 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina Abstract In order to ensure effective protection of groundwater sources, it is important to take into account all pollutants and activities that may present a potential risk. In the last period, as a useful tool in the protection of groundwater vulnerability mapping is applied. There are many methods for mapping groundwater vulnerability, some of which are more applicable than others. Although the use of and the choice of methods for assessing vulnerability depending on data availability, scale mapping, spatial distribution of data, hydrogeological and hydrological characteristics and many other parameters that serve as inputs for obtaining valid results. In this regard, this paper will analyze several methods for assessing the vulnerability of groundwater, which can be applied to the source of groundwater in the Sarajevo area. After the analysis, the results of completed vulnerability assessment, and mapping of groundwater vulnerability in the exploration area will be displayed using the COP method. The results will be presented with the help of GIS tools and presented in the form of maps of vulnerability for the catchment area of Sarajevsko Polje. ©© 2015 2015 Published The Authors. by Elsevier Pub lishedB.V. Many indications point to the variety of lithology, tectonic complexity and existence of water temperature more than 58°C in the remarkable geomorphological phenomena, from primary aquifer and proven seismoactive levels of which result complexity of hydrogeological relations over 5 km depth give the same possibility of and the existence of many surface flows and descendence of meteoric waters and their heating in accumulations of various types of groundwaters. that depth. Drinking, mineral, thermal and thermomineral waters in karstic Triassic carbonate rocks and alluvium are INTRODUCTION concentrated at a distance of 3 km only from Ilidţa to Blaţuj. All waters have high capacities, verified Ilidţa area represents one of the richest zone of indications of quality with a broad range of different types of mineral, thermal and thermomineral applications. The Roman Emperor Diocletian had waters, potable groundwaters and surface water flows been treated here for ischialgia and name of Ilidţa in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
