DO WHAT’S BEST 2015 Annual Report ABOUT US The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is America’s only nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grant making. We are driven by Dave’s vision: Do what’s best for the child. OUR MISSION The Foundation will dramatically increase the number of adoptions of waiting children from North America’s foster care systems. III PROGRAMMING Wendy’s Wonderful Kids More than 13,000* MILESTONES children served More than The 5,000th Adoption Years ago, a sibling group of four was placed on the caseload of a very 8,800* special Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter, and it wasn’t long before she realized they were meant for each other. Soon after, she became a Grants matched Manager at the Foundation, and they were able to begin the steps to become a family. During the morning of their adoption finalization, Jay said to his dad, “Hi! My name is Jay! I’m going to be your son in half an hour.” Dad replied, “You already are my son.” More than 5,300 adopted Our Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program continues to expand as the need to find permanent families still remains. *Since the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program inception in 2004. Having adopted three girls — two are biological siblings — they were always advocates for adoption and cared that all children grow up as part of a family. “Dad ran a business and always made sure, no matter what, that the salesmen were home every weekend to be with their families,” their daughter Lynn shared. The Mannings also spoke openly about adoption in their home. They were proud parents, and raised their daughters to be caring and humble people. “They were great givers in life.” Eileen and Jim made time not only for family, but for community, too. “Mom and Dad always had the door open for people.” Years of volunteering and donating have allowed the Manning legacy to live on today. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption was honored to receive $1 million from the Manning’s Charitable Remainder Trust. Thank you to Wendy’s and their customers, The Coca-Cola Company, and Dr. Pepper for supporting the Foundation through in-store campaigns. Last year, you raised more than $10 million for foster care adoption.
