Each year, our event features a published author to share inspiring stories and highlight the power of literacy in a fun and entertaining way. This life-changing event is packed with auctions, entertainment, fabulous food and a variety of wines.

Did you know in Monterey County, 25% of adults are functionally illiterate and only 27% of 3rd grade students met or exceeded the state standards in English Language Arts/Literacy in 2016? You can help change this. We invite you to join us as a sponsor to entertain clients and friends while supporting the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries. Individual and corporate investors, along with our event sponsors, provide financial and in-kind support and all proceeds go toward supporting the Monterey County Free Libraries literacy programs, which reach over 48,000 individuals annually through free Homework Centers, free Summer Reading Programs, free Online tutoring services, and free English Language Learning programs. Grant Imahara is recognized as the electronics and robots expert from Discovery Channel & Mythbusters. Using a blend of science and fun, he and his colleagues put urban legends to the test, sometimes with explosive results.

Before his career in front of the camera, Grant spent nine years working behind the scenes in special effects as an animatronics engineer and model maker for George Lucas & Industrial Light and Magic. He's worked on some of the most famous movie and TV robots of all time, including R2-D2 and the Energizer Bunny.

Grant has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California and is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is currently consulting for Walt Disney Imagineering, working on next-generation robots to go into Grant Imahara Disney's theme parks around the world. This annual event supports literacy efforts throughout Monterey County. Literacy can break the bonds of multi- generational struggle by improving health, income, and daily life. All proceeds from this event support free Homework Centers, free Summer Reading Programs, and free online tutoring services. Every year, over 48,000 individuals participate in the Foundation’s literacy programs. Monterey County Free Libraries operates 15 branches, 3 bookmobiles, and a virtual branch that serve the County.
