The one used here is known as a “swing boom.” It loaded from the end like we load trucks today. The other type was an “A-frame” and it loaded from the side. The swing boom jammers were mounted on runners that fit in the ruts of the ice road. Pulled to a deck by the horses that would also help load the logs, the rig was guyed down, and the boys went to work - and work they did.
