ALL INDIA MAJLIS-E-ITTEHADUL MUSLIMEEN (AIMIM) has played a pioneering role in promoting professional education and in providing medical care to the Muslim minority and other under-privileged sections of society for four decades. Dar us Salam Educational Trust was established in 1974 as a self- financing minority institution under the founder-chairmanship of Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi for promoting the advancement of Muslims and other underprivileged sections of society in the field of professional education.

During the 40 years of its existence, the DET has set up a network of prestigious educational institutions and hospitals. In December 1975, DET started an Industrial Training Institute (Owaisi ITI), the first minority-run ITI in the State, for imparting training in various trades and skills to Muslim youth.

NETWORK OF COLLEGES:

Under the aegis of Dar us Salam Educational Trust, the following Institutions are being run for the benefit of Muslim community in particular and poorer strata of society in general.

OWAISI GROUP OF HOSPITALS:

Owaisi Group of Hospitals – Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre and Princess Esra Hospital-- are the two teaching hospitals attached to Deccan College of Medical Sciences, with the State- of- Art facilities and equipment for all major and minor surgeries and treatment.

Both the Hospitals provide services to the patients in General Medicine, Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dentistry with supporting services of Radio Diagnostics, Biochemistry, Pathology and Microbiology. Super-speciality services are provided in the departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology & Urology, Plastic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and C T Surgery.

There is a Central Research facility in the Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre. It is funded by the prestigious research agencies-- both National and International-- to carry out advanced research in the field of liver transplantation, Xenotransplantaion, Gene therapy and molecular characterization of Hepatitis-C virus. Another similar research facility has also been started in Princess Esra Hospital recently.

The laboratories are sufficiently equipped with most accurate and technically sophisticated diagnostic equipment conforming to international standards apart from the provision of M.R.I., C.T.Scan, Cath Lab for Angiography, Mammography and Dialysis for kidney failure patients. Paramedical and Nursing Staff are skilfully trained and dedicated.

AFFORDABLE CHARGES FOR PATIENTS:

Both the Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre and Princess Esra Hospital have 1,050 beds each. Both these hospitals cater to the poorer sections of society, particularly from Muslim community, residing in and around the Old City of Hyderabad spread over five Assembly segments—Charminar, Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Malakpet. The out-patient attendance is 800 to 1,000 a day at Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre and 1,500 to 2,000 a day at Princess Esra Hospital. The In-patient admissions are 50 to 100 a day at Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre and 150 to 200 a day at Princess Esra Hospital.

Charges at both the hospitals are affordable and are far less compared to other hospitals. The charges for some of the tests and procedures are indicated below:

HEALTH CENTRES:

Six Primary Health Centres are run by Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad with the twin purpose of providing medicare to urban poor and needy patients and imparting training to students as part of MBBS curriculum. These PHCs are located at Hassan Nagar, Bhavani Nagar, Ghulam Murtuza Chawni, Hafez Baba Nagar, Musheerabad and Syed Nagar in different parts of the twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad.

Each PHC is staffed by a medical officer/assistant professor, a lady medical officer, a public health nurse, a health inspector, a health educator, a lab technician, two medical social workers and a Class IV worker. The PHCs organise health awareness camps and once-a-week special camp of Gynaecologist/ Paediatrician, participate in National Programme activities, provide school health services, maternal and child health care, including family planning, and compile vital statistics (births and deaths) etc. Each PHC also offers basic laboratory services and serves a population of 30,075.

DECCAN COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES & ALLIED INSTITUTIONS:

Deccan College of Medical Sciences is the first minority medical college in Hyderabad, started in 1984. Currently, it has an intake of 150 MBBS seats. It also offers PG Diploma courses in 9 disciplines, PG courses in 19 disciplines and Super-Speciality courses in four disciplines. It is affiliated to Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and approved by the Medical Council of India. It provides modern medical education to Under-graduates (MBBS) and Post Graduate students in the following disciplines:

Fakhr-E-Millat Hostel with two blocks (97 rooms in each block - for boys & girls separately) with facilities on International standards is also available in the DCMS campus.

From DCMS, as many as 3,023 MBBS Graduates and 209 Post-Graduates in various disciplines have passed out since its inception in 1984-85. Super- Speciality Courses were started in 2011 and so far, four Super-Speciality Graduates have also passed out.

Proposals for the increase of intake in MBBS from 150 to 200 and for starting PG Super-Speciality Courses in Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Paediatric Surgery and Neuro Surgery are awaiting sanction of the Medical Council of India.

OTHER ALLIED INSTITUTIONS OF DCMS:

Deccan School of Hospital Management was established in 1998, with an intake of 60 seats. It offers Masters Degree in Hospital Management. It is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. So far, 488 students passed out.

Owaisi Multipurpose Health Workers (Female) Training School was started in 1999 to offer ANM Course with an intake of 40 seats. It is approved by Commissioner of Family Welfare, Government of . So far, 217 students passed out.

Owaisi School of Nursing was set up in 1999 to offer Diploma in General Nursing with the approval of Government of AP and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The intake is 30 seats. So far, 281 students passed out.

Owaisi College of Nursing (B.Sc) was established in 2001 to offer B.Sc Degree in Nursing with an intake of 50 seats. It is approved by Government of AP and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. It is affiliated to Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. So far, 338 students passed out.

Owaisi College of Nursing (M.Sc) was started in 2009 to offer M.Sc (PG) Degree in Nursing with an intake of 20 seats. It is approved by Government of AP and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. It is affiliated to Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. So far, 40 students passed out.

Deccan School of Pharmacy (B-Pharmacy) was set up in 1997 to offer 4-year Degree Course in Pharmacy with an intake of 40 seats. It is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad and approved by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. So far, 396 students passed out. Deccan School of Pharmacy started Pharma-D 6-year Course from the year 2008-09 with an intake of 30 seats. The first batch is expected to roll out in the year 2014-15.

DCMS College of Physiotherapy was established in the year 2000 with an intake of 50 seats to offer BPT Course. It is affiliated to Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. So far, 287 students passed out.

DECCAN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY AND ALLIED INSTITUTIONS:

Deccan College of Engineering & Technology was started in 1984. It is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. DCET offers 4-year undergraduate programme (BE) and 2-year PG programme (ME) in Engineering and 3-year Post- Graduate programme in Computer Applications (MCA). It has an intake of 632 and offers the UG and PG courses in various disciplines. So far, 11,245 engineering graduates and post-graduates passed out.

The intake is as follows: BE Civil engineering (120 seats), Mechanical (120), ECE (90), CSE (90), EEE (60), IT (60), Production (40) and Instrumentation (40), MCA (60), ME (Transportation Engineering (18), Structural Engineering (18), Digital Systems (18) and CSE (18).

The Department of Master of Computer Applications was established under the DET in 1992 with an initial intake of 30 seats which has been raised to 60 subsequently. Equipped with a professional wing of faculties and other staff, MCA Department has state-of-the-art resources. So far, 855 MCA post- graduates passed out.

Deccan School of Management was established in 1991 for offering MBA programme. It is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The intake is 180. The School has the most advanced teaching aids and audio-visual equipment. So far, 1,952 MBA post-graduates passed out.

Deccan School of Planning & Architecture was started in 2011. It is affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture & Fine Arts University, Hyderabad, and approved by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi. The School offers five-year B Arch course with an intake of 80.

OVERALL ACHIEVEMENTS AND FUTURE PLANS:

The colleges and institutions relating to medical and health sectors (except pharmacy) are located at Kanchanbagh campus while colleges offering engineering, architecture, management, computer sciences and pharmacy courses are located at Dar us Salam campus at Agapura. Princess Esra Hospital is situated at Moghulpura in the City. DET also runs half a dozen health centres in Hyderabad for providing medical care to the poor.

In all, as many as 20,000 students have passed out of the prestigious institutions run by the DET over the last three decades. In addition, scores of ITI students passed out of Owaisi ITI during 1975-1985. The professional colleges under the DET have made their mark all over the country as well as the world and the alumni are working across the globe in prestigious institutions and establishments.

The DET has drawn up ambitious plans to augment the facilities in all its institutions, introduce new courses and set up a string of new professional colleges in the emerging fields. The future plans include increase of intake in MBBS course from 150 to 200 and introduction of super-speciality courses in four disciplines. The DCMS proposals are awaiting clearance of the Medical Council of India, New Delhi. A multi-purpose sports complex is being planned at DCMS campus at Phisalbanda. Separate buildings are being constructed for the Owaisi College of Nursing and the DCMS College of Physiotherapy.

The DET also has plans to set up a third teaching hospital in the New City of Hyderabad to cater to the poorer sections, especially from Muslim community, from the Assembly segments of Goshamahal, Karwan, Nampally, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad and Sanathnagar. The third hospital will also have bed strength of 1,050.

OTHER ACTIVITIES OF DAR US SALAM EDUCATIONAL TRUST:

Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi started the AIMIM Education Aid to the Students of Government Urdu Medium High Schools in 2005 as part of Rahmatul Lil Alameen celebrations. Under this programme, Education kits, consisting of school-bags, long books, guide-sets and geometry boxes, are distributed to Government Urdu medium students of Classes VI to X. Examination fees is remitted for all Urdu medium students appearing for SSC (X Class) Board examinations. All-in-One Model papers are distributed to the SSC students.

Cash awards are given to head masters/principals and staff for achieving 100 percent SSC results at the rate of Rs 5,000 per school. Cash awards are also given to students, including State topper award of Rs 7,000, first class students of SSC exam with more than 8.4 GPA Rs 5,000 each, between 8.0 to 8.3 GPA, Rs 3,000 each and between 6.0 and 7.9 GPA Rs 500 each.

Education kits are distributed to students enrolled in government Urdu medium high schools located in the assembly constituencies of Hyderabad- Secunderabad, particularly Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Malakpet, Karwan, Nampally and Goshamahal segments. Every year, about 85 Urdu medium high schools are covered.

Education kits were given to 68,100 students in the last nine years. SSC exam fees were disbursed to 19,362 students in 87 schools so far. About 33,680 All-in- One Model Paper Guides were distributed to students across the State so far. Also, 2,651 SSC toppers were given cash awards so far. A total amount of Rs 284 lakh was spent in the last nine years on this scheme.
